Sure a small, small minority of dogs are vicious, that is because of the owner, abusing or not caring about the dog.
If you care and look after a dog they become the best companion anyone could have, they wait for you to come home from school or work, they are loyal and will never leave your side.

Guys. I just had the greatest idea for a compromise. How about, instead of banning them outright, we take all the dogs, just round em up. Then, we buy an enormous plot of land in Minnesota, large enough that all of the dogs have fresh air and room to run around in. Then we send the dogs there and fund it through taxes. Yes, instead of the dogs dying, we send them to a farm up North. It's the perfect plan.

Back to seriousness. Dogs are wonderful companions, and play a major part in Minnesota culture. Up here we use our dogs to hunt alongside us. I myself have 2 hunting dogs that I have trained, and they haven't bit someone, and possess no danger to anyone. My kids love them, they love to ride on them, and my dogs enjoy it a great deal. My dogs are an essential part of the family, they are my family, as much as my wife and children. I actually feel kind of sad you haven't experienced owning a dog.

If a dog is unruly, it is the fault of the owner for not properly training the dog, or the owners plain old sense of negligence. That's why owners are held accountable for actions their dog makes to the public.

In the end, if the government that I had sworn to protect tried to take my dogs... You would have to get past me and my guns.

I grew up with a dog who was for all intents and purposes my little sister. Years after she passed, took in a hard luck case and helped her come out of her shell and lead a much happier life before her health complications caught up with her. My current job relies on the bond between people and companion animals. If I don't start the group first, I want in on day one.

Yesterday, while I was taking a walk by the harbor, a vicious white dog suddenly barked in my direction.

Ooh, scary. We're you doing something to anger it? Or is it one of these dogs that just likes fucking shit up?

Within seconds it was chasing me down the lenght of the harbor and I was running for my life.

Really now? Was it wagging its tail and having its tongue out waving in the wind?

I never knew I could run that fast but I managed to emerge from the incident, unscathed.

This isn't the first time this sort of thing has happened to me; in fact as a little kid dogs have attacked me on many occasions throughout various cities around the world.

There's obviously something wrong with the way you interact with dogs, then. You should probably seek help for that.

And its not just because I personally don't like them.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious you dislike them and want them banned because of your inability to interact with them in a way that doesn't result in them "attacking" you. Hey, dogs can't help user error sometimes.

Dogs are very dangerous because they can bite people.

Anything that can bite humans can be considered dangerous. Cats. Goats. Cows (you do not want to fuck with them).

Owners can try to control their dogs but the fact of the matter is, they can't always keep everything under control; accidents will happen.

So, because accidents happen, we should ban dogs?

Dogs are a safety hazard, not just to the people who buy them but also to everyone else.

Sure. In the same way riding a bicycle is a danger to everyone else.

When guests come to a house with dogs their lives may be in danger; when dogs are taken out for walks, pedestrians are in danger.

So we should ban dogs because of the chance that something goes wrong? Let's put it this way: if you know how to control your dogs and how to raise a dog so that it isn't "dangerous", then you are not in danger and your dog is not a danger to others. Simply put, you do not how to interact with dogs in a way that stops you from making errors in your body language and as a result, you want to ban them because of your negative experiences. Congratulations on making a terrible personal vendetta for no reason.

Its not right that someone can buy a dog and then endanger other people.

A lot of things you can buy and keep endanger people. Cars for example. That's why laws exist to prevent these things from happening.

If a dog attacks you and bites you and then you get infected by disease, you could die if not treated.

Fun fact: you can contract tuberculosis from cats and you can pick up parasites from their scratches.

People have a right to walk down sidewalks and throughout parks without having to worry about stepping on dog droppings.

Which is why some cities fine people for not picking up dog feces. Where I live, leaving dog feces on footpaths and on grass verges is $150 in fines. Most people really don't have that kind of money to throw away with reckless abandon.

People should not have to contend with these sights.

I'm sure the sight of human feces, blood, vomit and urine is much more aesthetically pleasing.

Yes in theory owners are supposed to clean up after their dogs but in my experience, too many owners don't and its costing the rest of us.

Costing you in terms of what exactly? Mental trauma from the smell? Seriously, dog shit is the least of the problems most people have to deal with on a daily basis. It's an inconvenience, if anything.

I suppose if you accidentally step on dog droppings you could go after the owner and try to sue him but there are obviously problems with this.

Chiefly among which is that you intend on suing someone for stepping in dog feces. Suing someone for a slight inconvenience is the definition of what the word "stupidity" is. Try and pull that kind of stunt here and you will be laughed out of court (and publicly ridiculed).

I think we could adopt an approach similar to Singapore, where they have a no tolerance policy towards chewing gum on the floor in public areas with respect to the dog dropping problem.

You should probably seek help for the kind of issues you have with dogs. Perhaps visit a kennel or a puppy school or a breeder and learn how to properly interact with dogs so that you do not provoke them into doing something bad. Tell me, what do you do if you see someone walking a dog? How do you interact with the dog?
