Too bad no one in the house had a weapon so they could have killed the shooter. The best defense to a bad father with a gun is a good wife or child with a gun.

What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive? Or if during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? People like him should be allowed to own a gun, if he has sever enough depression in which he would do this it wouldn't have show up out of nowhere it probably took years and years for it to develop and progress this far. If the wife had a gun 50/50 that he ether would have killed her and continued or he would be dead or we could have given him proper mental help and no body would have had to die.

I agree that it's good to have a gun which can be used in self-defense (and even better if the person using it is actually properly trained to use it), OP, and what the husband did was very cruel and horrible, but don't you think you want to elaborate on your opinion? Something more than a short, two-sentence OP would be appreciated here.
