Protected from people trying to force their beliefs on whomever. Unpopular opinions and beliefs are actually more important in a democracy.

Yes, he lost his team because of a personal conversation with a woman who was setting him up to take a fall.

He may be a person that I oculdn't stand if I met him, but he was railroaded.

He was banned outright without even using a racial slur.

Well, railroading is as railroading does. One could argue that he set himself up, given that a month previously Sterling's wife embarked on a lawsuit to recover from his "friend," V. Stiviano, "$1.8-million Los Angeles duplex as well as a Ferrari, two Bentleys, and a Range Rover she said her husband bought for Stiviano." When one's private life is being bruited about in the courts, this kind of thing happens and Sterling acted foolishly by even talking to Stiviano while the suit was going on.

Oh god, now we are almost talking about man vs. women/ feminism out of control.

Any person deserves to keep a business or home, etc, that has meaning to him and is part of his financial security.

No, by personally destroying them. That's one way. The rest is another story for another time.

I'm talking of more than Sterling.

I mean people who have to live under a glaring spotlight and have people with a certain mentality harass and abuse them.

Their lives can be made hell and they lose a big chunk of their lives because of it. Noone has that right.

Note, that Sterling's wife brought the suit in behalf of the Sterling family, it wasn't what you think it means.

No one forced Mr. Sterling to say the things he said on the recording. When one lives in under a glaring spotlight, one ought to be a little circumspect.

Don't want to live under the spotlight? Don't be a public figure.

Don't want to face harassment and criticism? Tough, free speech goes both ways.

Actually, legally, you have as much right to criticism somebody as they have to criticize you, and you have a stronger right to not associate with them than they have to associate with you.

It's not a responsibility in the first place. He said stuff that people didn't like, and people got mad.

In his home, talking (on the phone, I think) to a woman, his mistress, basically, who was being sued by his wife and who had told him she would get even with him. Just talking to her was stupid, let alone bitching at her about associating with black people.
