Canada is perfectly safe. I think the world would be safer if people cooperated together, you know traded and changed goods, instead of being prepared to destroy mankind.

Nuclear weapons are the most efficient means of preventing war.

Yep. Here's the WIki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada_and ... _armaments. Never said anything about them making their own, why would they when they could get them from the US?

Edit: I misunderstood, they were never solely owned by Canada. Still, they "hosted" them and did have partial control. The OP talks as if getting Nukes would be totally new.

I'm possibly misremembering from when I read that article earlier today, but in European nuclear sharing the USAF opened its own airbases, or sections of airbases, in European territory and stores nuclear weapons there, specifically the B61 gravity bomb family. Officially, these weapons are for the sole use of the USAF fighter wings, but the intention is that if they are required for use, that European air forces are trained in the handling, deployment and use of these weapons.

I thought Canada had been given relatively free reign, possibly akin to British use of the Trident missile system with indigenous warheads.

We don't need more countries with nuclear weapons. Besides the United States poses no threat to Canada what so ever, unless you've been playing too much Fallout.

You can't and shouldn't rely on the USA forever... especially because resources around the world are running out, and Canada is sitting on top of a lot of untapped underwater resources.

No one would dare to invade Canada without angering the Commonwealth and NATO. Invading Canada will turn the invading state into an international pariah.

He is right about the Commonwealth getting angry. This was proven when the US invaded the small Caribbean island of Grenada which is part of the commonwealth. The iron lady of the UK., then PM., was really angry.

Things look like they're pretty crazy down in the US border and some day, the USA might suddenly decide to invade and annex Canada (they've shown their willingness to invade somewhere as far away as Iraq for oil).

After all, Canada is sitting on top of extremely resource rich land. It has massive reserves of oil, natural gas, and mineral resources. Should the US or another country turn imperial one day, Canada would be a logical target. Its a massive country with a ton of natural resources (and tons of untapped resources in the Canadian North), yet it only has around 34 million people (less people than the tiny island country of the UK), almost all located in easily targetted cities close to the US border. I am NOT exaggerating when I say if the USA wanted to, it could invade and take all of Canada's major cities in a few weeks.

Canada isn't safe. It relies too much on the USA, if the USA turns against it or if the USA is unwilling to defend Canada when Canada gets attacked, it is doomed. Canada must get nuclear weapons. Then no one would dare invade it no matter the profits because Canada could retaliate with a nuclear strike. I'm surprised that Canada doesn't have nuclear weapons. France, the UK, China, and Russia all have them so why not Canada?

It's time for Canada to get nukes to ensure it is secure. It's time for Canada to join the world's elite and prestigious club of nations, a club whose individual members have the capability to destroy entire cities and forests with the click of a button. It's time for Canada to get some of that glory and power. Now is the time to do it, when war is looming, it will be too late.

What do you think NSG? Is it time for Canada to go nuclear?

So, you want to ban firearms in order to protect innocent people, but want your country to make weapons capable of wiping out an entire city of innocent people?

Sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

Short of insanity, there really is no reason for the US to try invade Canada. Iraq was a hostile nation, Canada hasn't had trouble with the US in a LONG time. Not to mention that it makes MUCH more sense for them to deal with Canada as a friend.

Besides, do you REALLY think that Canada would stand a chance against America if they did invade? Even with nukes, it's unlikely.

The problem Canada has is that most of its population is hugging the US border. Which means US forces can easily overrun them.

There's no real logical reason for Canada to obtain nuclear weapons, there is really no substantial threat to their sovereignty.

I don't want to argue about what you were saying, but hitting an asteroid with a nuke would probably just break it into smaller pieces, which would be even worse.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Anyway, back on topic, I don't really think Canada needs nukes. Sure, it might be good for security, but the US is unlikely to invade Canada anytime soon. And, even if it did, the US has a lot of nukes. Sure, Canada might destroy one or two cities, but that would most likely cause the US to invade further for revenge "to put an end to the threat".

Actually, according to NASA, detonating a nuke near an asteroid would be one of the best ways to deflect it.

And if it does break up, that's a good thing, a bunch of small asteroids are likely to burn up in the atmosphere, and even if not, I'd rather have a few areas of busted up infrastructure to a potentially extinction causing super-massive asteroid.

Canada does not need nuclear weapons. Their southern neighbor is more than happy to serve as deterrent. Any acquisition would be condemned internationally, not only for breaking non-proliferation treaties, but also for upsetting the balance of power between the USA, UK, France, and NATO.
