What Level of Education Does NSG Have?

Postby Forsher » Mon Jul 21, 2014 4:00 am

This is a reasonably simple question although it is complicated by the international spread of NSG. I've also decided that technical training is as much a form of education as the academic stuff one usually thinks of as falling under the umbrella of education. I would've put up an option called Certificate/Diploma but I'm not sure how widespread those terms are. (As a quick explanation, those poll options with a some in the title mean that one has been to university or secondary but didn't finish with a qualification from either place and none of the other options apply; obviously one is not currently enrolled with either.)

I finished secondary last year and I am currently at university and I'm looking to graduate with an A+ in commuting. Just my little joke (I catch a train in), In reality I'm doing a BA/BCom conjoint in History and Economics. I don't have a plan to do anything with any qualification I may or may not get and, in fact, I'm more interested in accumulating large debts before I'm 20. Again a joke... I'm at uni because I want to continue studying in subject areas that I've been interested in for the last three years now and I know I don't want to do anything else. It's okay. (Currently I'm taking five courses... maths, stats, business, information systems and history; no economics as I need to get core courses out of the way.)

So, what about you NSG? What level of education do you have and why? Are you looking to go further or is whatever you're up to your current plan? If you're still in education how are you finding it? Any other relevant thoughts?

Secondary atm, I'm going to be going to University to do an integrated Masters degree in Chemistry (basically the three years of a Bachelors and the one year of a Masters degree combined into one degree).

I've had a really fucked up educational history tbh, I got bulled and left school when I was 14, I had to self teach myself my gcses from home as my parents couldn't afford a private tutor, I managed to get pretty much pure B's with an A, I then moved up half way across the country to live with my Girlfriend, I began an engineering Apprenticeship up their, but me and my girlfriend actually got kicked out of her Mothers house 8 months into the Apprenticeship. So we both moved back South to my home city and I ended up enrolling in an access course, and now I'm going to be going to do Chemistry at a top ten UK University, so I'm pretty lucky.

I plan on either continuing on with my education and doing a PHD, or just taking my degree and going on to do a graduate scheme at a big company, or perhaps going into finance. Not sure yet.

Highest completed education I've is upper secondary school diploma and matriculation diploma.
I studied for Bachelor of Engineering in Energy tech for couple of years, but I dropped out for a couple of years, and I am now in adult education programme to get technical qualification as automation assembler/electrician.
I am trying to finish BEng after I finish this technical qualification programme.

I hold 12 GCSEs grade A* to C, three being A* (Maths, Chemistry, Geography) and six being A grade. I hold two half-GCSE qualifications equivalent to a B-grade.
I hold four A-levels, Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Further Maths - grades A, B, C, D respectively.

I'm currently studying BSc Physics with Nuclear Science at the University of Liverpool. I graduate next year.
I intend to progress to an MPhys after this, and possibly pursue a doctorate.

When I voted, I found it quite interesting that at that time, there were three people claiming to hold a Master's degree, and none claiming a Bachelor's :P
Nice to see the degree classifications have filled out a little, even if only barely.

Technically qualified as a welder/fabricator (though I never went to school, per se, for much of any of it). Other than that I have an Associates Degree and am currently in the process of working towards a Bachelors in Chemistry. Might take some time though as I'm only taking 1-2 classes per semester so I can still run my business on the side. But I haven't had to dig into any of that student debt stuff, so I'd say it's a fair trade. Even if I get too little sleep.

This year I took my A Levels (Modern History, Psychology, English Language and Computing), but I haven't got the results back, and won't until the 14th of August.

A Levels are the 'take at 18 yrs old' final exams before University in the UK, for non-Brits.

Did you do four full A-levels too?
Completely four courses to A2 standard reflects well on you and usually gives you wiggle room in your entry requirements vis a vis your grades.

As I and a dear friend both know.
(somehow, despite living at basically opposite ends of the country, we took the same four A-levels and got the same grades - putting us under our entry requirements, but the 4th A2 carried us along)
