Religion plays a role in everyone's lives, at least to a small extent.

Even if someone is atheist or agnostic, society participates in many religious activities. For Americans, it is Christianity. We all participate in practices influenced by a historically religious culture, to the point that we don't even notice it.

Which activities does our society participate in that is religious?

"We all participate in practices influenced by a historically religious culture, to the point that we don't even notice it."

1) "Under God" in the Pledge.
2) Prayers before public meetings.
3) National Motto, and various State Mottos
4) Stores closing early on Sundays.
5) A general stigma against people who are irreligious.
6) A public official asking for thoughts and prayers in times of crisis.

Wikipedia wrote:Although participation in organized religion has been diminishing, the public life and popular culture of the United States incorporates many Christian ideals specifically about redemption, salvation, conscience, and morality.

None of the things I mention are explicitly Christian, but have been influenced by a Christian culture.

My mother is (or was) a Protestant, as are some of my relatives and friends, but traditionally we do not focus a lot on religions in general. We also worship our ancestors and the native gods and people in special ceremonies, and even the Christian relatives are fine with that.

Native Gods? Could you please specify? I'm curious.

We have hundreds of them, though most of them time we worship them only in specific time and circumstances.

All of which are extremely controversial, and which people make an active attempt to change.

4) Stores closing early on Sundays.

That, or the fact that people would like to have a day to themselves.

5) A general stigma against people who are irreligious.
6) A public official asking for thoughts and prayers in times of crisis.

Both of which, again, kick up a shit load of controversy.

None of the things I mention are explicitly Christian, but have been influenced by a Christian culture.

And most of what you mentioned are extremely controversial, and bring upon them criticism, rightly, from non-Christian groups.

Mostly because by their definition, every single thing in the world (from animals to concepts) have to have a god, so theoretically they are creating gods constantly.

Older Chinese ones tend to deify individuals that influenced yhe world a lot, too, so we can probably see some real life individuals becoming gods in the future.

And you think religion affects this, how? I mean, different religions view different things as sexually immoral. There is no one cohesive view on the thing. Also, what exactly do you mean by sexual immorality. As far as I am concerned if all involved parties are consenting adults, there is no such thing.
