I found a picture of a doll from the plane crash. Looking at it makes this feel so much more real to me... :'(

Peacekeeping is their job, they might as well fucking do it.

There's something we agree on, but with the clusterfuck that is the UN that won't happen. I keep saying it needs reformed but alas, that won't happen.

I know, but, I mean, I'm pretty confident just crushing the rebels won't make them go away forever, and a lot of civilians have already died, and the fighting hasn't even gotten to Donetsk itself yet.

People don't seem to realize that Donetsk is huge, its metro area has 2 million people. It isn't some backwater town. Urban warfare there would incur massive civilian casualties.

Well, it'll probably turn into an insurgency when the rebels are defeated which will just make things worse because no one knows how to fight a COIN war. That'll lead to more dead people and all around shitiness.

Yeah, it will go from a stand-up war to something similar to the Troubles, but maybe with more intensity.

Ukrainian Su-25 fighter detected in close approach to MH17 before crash

Very interesting article there from RT - it seems that the Russian Defense Ministry has evidence that backs up the fact that MH17 was being followed closely by Ukrainian fighters, specifically the Su-25. The pictures from the defense ministry show that it was flying at 10,000 meters, the same height as the airliner, and only 3km away where it could have easily attacked with its R-60 missiles.

>manufacturer website
>max ceiling 7km unloaded
>RT claims flying at 10km armed with air-to-air missiles

The image heading that article is of an aircraft that is not a 777, and another that is not an Su-25 - in fact, it looks like an unarmed EF-111 to me.

Frogfoots and A-10s usually carry something resembling a sidewinder or two, it would be stupid otherwise.

RT, however, is stupider for implying that it could reach those heights and shoot the plane down.

I'll admit I don't know much about the Ukrainian military so I wasn't aware if the Ukrainian loadout had AA capabilities or if it was 100% geared for CAS.

Very unlikely, The rebels do not as of yet have aircraft, and while Russian Aircraft have ignored the Ukrainian border shooting down a Russian Aircraft would be inviting Russian ground forces to come visit you.

It also just seems silly to me that the Ukrainian air force would use a CAS aircraft to intercept a passenger plane when they have more suitable Su-27s and MiG-29s.

RT is not implying it. The image "Image courtesy of the Russian Defense Ministry" clearly shows the SU-25 fighter at H(eight) 10,000M. Are you seriously suggesting that the Russian Defense Ministry would go around handing out deliberately false evidence?

Of course not. Clearly the Sukhoi performance statements are incorrect. The power of the neo-Nazi banderist Ukrainian pilot's will and their desire to kill innocents allowed him/her to exceed the maximum operating ceiling.

That's a much more plausible explanation.

Alternative response:
FUCKING DUH!
