This piece of land has been claimed by many "interesting" people for years.

I do, sometimes. My favorite micronations are Sealand (I guess we all know about that, it's located off English land), Molossia (with all due respect to Kevin Baugh, I imagine that he only has de facto sovereignty over his house and bathroom), and the Aerican Empire (claiming sovereignty over some lands on Earth and Mars, Pluto's northern hemisphere, and a planet that doesn't exist at all).

I believe micro nationalism is a good thig for people. With how crappy some countries are and how some peoples lives are it is fun to feel as if you are in control of something major. I myself decide to form a micronation after watching Danny Wallace's videos over how to start one and I already have 30 citizens! I believe what this father has done is a good thing, but instead should hae started it closer to home.

That depends: If the land has any valuable resources, someone might view him as a useful puppet and support his claim. If the land is essentially just wasteland, than likely no-one will care enough to unseat him and he might get recognized by making a pest out of himself. The most likely scenario, is of course, his being totally ignored by the international community- which. I guess makes him king unless someone else comes along.

The land is wasteland. The reason the land is unclaimed, is because Sudan and Egypt are vying for control of another piece of land between their nations.

In order to look goody goody and hope someone arbitrates in their favour, both countries reject claim of Bir Tawil.

I can understand it, and I like the concept of Danny Wallace's How to Start Your Own Country (featuring Wallace designing his country and pretty much every important thing related to it - flag, currency, anthem, laws, etc.). However, my worst fear is that - hopefully it will not come to pass - the micronations can only serve to feed the ego of people behind them, making them feel like they're big, like they're the leader of this land and that land, this region and that region, making them feel like a great king/queen, while forgetting that they are very much still in the territory of another, truly sovereign state, or that the people outside this micronation will never recognize its sovereignty, or that this whole thing is just unrealistic and unfeasible from the very beginning, which is what I saw in the case of this so-called "Kingdom of North Sudan".

Nevertheless, I do see some value in the concept of the micronation - assuming that there is indeed some sort of a functioning government, it can give the people behind it some experience and lessons to take in leading, organizing, and keeping control over the government and people. It can help to improve their people skills. As long as it is not taken too far (and it is not so unrealistic), I don't have any problem with the micronations.

The most important thing here is that the kids will learn a thing or two about Africa and politics and international relations, which is good.

I think a coup on Sealand would have been better than this.
For so long, Mankind has been plagued by division. Division by culture, creed, skin color, religion and nationality. These very divisions have been the cause of most human conflicts. But in the age of globalism, we can finally have that chance to implement a world government where all human beings are seen as equals. Isn't that what everyone wants? World peace? I do. You should support that too. It may not end all conflicts, but the reductions of Man on Man violence will be at an all time low when the entire planet gets administered by one governing body.

I doubt it will be recognized since Bir Tawil is part of Sudan or of Egypt if we use the 22nd parallel or the administrative boundary that it is drawn up. Nice gesture, but what we could do is either allocate it to Sudan and the Hala'ib Triangle to Egypt, or the former to Sudan and the latter to Egypt... or we could just get the USA to annex under the Guano Islands Act because why not?

Micronations are so silly.

I declare myself the emperor of SputnikMonroe, a micronation spanning the face of the Moon.

My first act is to demand a tourism tax of five dollars for looking at the beautiful surface of SputnikMonroe, effective immediately.

So if you ever look at the night sky, make sure to send me five dollars.

So sayeth the emperor of SputnikMonroe.
