Great, so I'm going to be the only one who doesn't think this dad is awesome and amazing. Nor do I think what he's done is "cool."

I think what he's done is fairly ludicrous, and is sending the wrong message to his daughter. What it is teaching her is that if you want something so bad, no matter how unrealistic, you can get it. Unfortunately life doesn't work that way, and it may set her up for major disappointments down the road. I'm not saying people shouldn't strive for things in their lives - a new car, to stop smoking, etc. - but to become something she wasn't - a princess - is just overboard, IMHO.

This girl will move past this "princess" phase in her life and when she's matured, I think even the "princess" will realize that this was outlandish, and has transformed her entire family's life just to satiate her desire to be again, something she wasn't.

And obviously, nobody is going to recognize this claim to territory. Well, maybe Sealand.

Good point. Without an army or diplomatic protection, anyone could walk over the kingdom, providing they do not harm the family (as they are US Citizens).

One point to keep in mind is that Egypt gave them permission to cross it's borders in order to establish the kingdom.

I know how he feels. I myself have declared my own country before, albeit a micronation, but still a country. I sadly don't believe any of us will get recognition, but this is still very cool.

Plus, like I said earlier, if the land has any valuable resources or strategic value, he could become king by showing his willingness to run a puppet government for an actual nation.

That depends: If the land has any valuable resources, someone might view him as a useful puppet and support his claim. If the land is essentially just wasteland, than likely no-one will care enough to unseat him and he might get recognized by making a pest out of himself. The most likely scenario, is of course, his being totally ignored by the international community- which. I guess makes him king unless someone else comes along.

If the land was worth claiming Egypt or Sudan would have claimed it a long time ago. In fact, neither of the claim it because they're both claiming the far more valuable Hala'ib Triangle.

Good point. Bir Tawil really has no natural resources available, hence the fact that it is unclaimed. Nobody but this one guy and several other internet users want it, and only because they want to be kings.
