To be fair, dumbbells are way more practical than kettlebells, in the sense that you can keep shoring them up with more plates as you go. With the latter you have to buy a new set altogether.
As a rule of thumb if you're looking to maximize weight strength, stick to the dumbells; kettlebells are much more flexible and can be used for cardio and endurance on top of building strength, but that last bit they will never do quite as well as dumbbells or barbells.
