"Greatest" is, again, subjective. You may think other things make a nation great than I do. I'll agree with "most important", though.

This, yes. The US military is the most powerful by far, it protects Japan, SK, the Phillipines, and so on. It also aids other western countries, and is a massive force (for better or worse) in the Middle East.

Military power isn't the same as international importance, though. Currently, the USA is the only country on earth that can legitimately say it's a super-power.

Military power may not be the same in and of itself, but it definitely counts when it is actively used to support countless countries throughout the world.

But I digress. You are correct.

A bit of an irony considering the 'American Dream' and how America was held as the 'land of opportunity' in the past. :(

If we can learn that "pull yourself up by the bootstraps, the free market always works" is an absolutely incorrect statement, and start instituting social welfare reform, we could get somewhere.

That's not likely to happen any time soon.

Best? How do we define best? One of the most powerful? Perhaps, but for how long? Empires rise and fall. I'm not sure if America will be as relevant as China or India in decades to come.

No, it is entirely subjective. How do you define best? yeah sure it is the dominating super power, buts its got a ton of issues such as poor infrastructure, massive wealth gaps and other things. Same with other countries, so i dont even think you can have a single best country in the world regardless of who it is.

In terms of military spending, sure. Otherwise, perhaps not.

They're certainly the most vocal country tho. You might not know who your own country's vice president is, but still manage to know every detail about some woman who got shot in Chicago, or how to tell the difference between near-identical American accents.

American accents are not any more "near-identical" than the accents in other English-speaking countries. Americans have trouble telling apart the various kinds of British accents because we're not as familiar with them and don't know what to listen for to tell them apart. If you're less familiar with American accents, then the same thing will apply.

I'm sure we can change that.
Legalize owning RPG's and nuclear weapons, reinstate hanging, add in burning meat grinders, stop giving shits for airplane crashes, shut the fuck up about banning guns, the south will NOT rise again, you are just ignorant, look down on the poor, modify genetics so fat kids taste like bacon, cats are better than dogs, if you don't like what's going on in the middle east, fix it yourself, Obama is a good president, just a bad Congress, MLP is a kickass show.

Neither did the actual Second Roman Empire.
Your nation is like a son. What it does right is your merit, as well as what it does wrong is your fault. When you praise it, be lucid and avoid exaggeration. Praising it too much can make it indolent. On the other hand, when you criticize it, be harsh, but do not ridicule it. Do your best to improve it, not through derision or disdain, but through good examples and dedication.

I don't really think there is presently a best country in the world.

So, no, I don't think America is the best country in the world. I think it has the best opportunity to be the best country in the world but it is not at present the best country in the world.
