You don't commit your whole presence to a single punch or kick - one must be tactical and withdraw the extended limb immediately after to either 1) cycle another strike or 2) brace for impact expecting an incoming one.

Still, it's a damn shame. It's a beautiful art.

As how modern mixed or hybrid martial arts draw elements from older more traditional styles. ;) But people don't go around speaking Vulgar Latin anymore, as no one in their right mind would bring non-modernized and ritualistic Taichi or Aikido to a streetfight. One must be practical. :p
