Wow. I know the pope is trying to be different and chart a new course but this barely even makes any sense. I mean, communist countries freaking ban religions including various forms of Christianity. I'm basically just going to chalk this up to translation issues and the fact the pope's been having some health problems. I mean otherwise JP2 is no doubt spinning in his grave.

It's concerning though when even the pope seems to have trouble recognizing the difference between right and wrong.

He saying they have Christian values when it comes to the poor, not that they believe in God.

What I think that Pope is trying to get at is that the basics of Communist and Christian Ideology is this: that one shouldn't simply leave your fellow men on the lurch or outright exploit them for profit.

I'm some 17 year old psuedo-libertarian who leans to the left in social terms, is fiercly right economically, and centrist in foriegn policy. There is some reasoning behind that. Marxism and Communism filled the ideological void left over by the abandonment of Christianity in 19th century European societies.

Strictly speaking, he's variously conflating claims of him adhering to Leninism and Marxism with rebuttals discussing Communism.

On topic, it's always made me curious as to how a lot of Far-Leftists are against religion. Most religions encourage fair treatment, equality, charity, and what not. And yet, most Communists and Socialists are typically Atheists and Anti-Theists.

Early Christians came pretty close with their communities. And just like Christianity and the bible, communism didn't exactly follow the words of Marx to the letter when it was their time to shine.
