I don't care what people wear and I don't think people should be encouraged to wear anything in particular. Females can wear a skirt or trousers or a bikini bottom for all I care - same goes for men, or someone who doesn't identify with any gender. You won't see me discriminating against people because of their clothing choices.

Because I think there should be something clothes-wise which determines one's sex.
Skirts also show that one isn't ashamed of being female.

You said yourself you can usually tell someone's sex by looking at them, so what's the point?
You can not be ashamed to be female but not want to wear skirts.

As far as I can tell, school uniforms were for the sake of removing class differences. Poor kids wouldn't have to feel inferior to rich kids because of how they dressed.

Unfortunately, some schools may feel that uniforms enforce discipline, but to my mind this is a questionable sort of discipline. It isn't the kind of self-discipline one needs to succeed academically, but only amounts to obedience and a lack of individuality.

Trousers are made for men. Skirts for women. Therefore, I think people should keep to these guidelines.

it's only that way because somebody said so.

Uhm...

... why?

Another aspect is that uniforms generally instill a sense of belonging to a group. As such, they could improve the school culture as a whole.

I just had a funny idea...
maybe skirts could function as a way to pee without having to take your pants down. Then again, no.
I get the feeling that sitting here in my bedroom wearing a skirt would be uncomfortable, but maybe it's just me.

Exactly. Trousers and skirts can be worn by anyone, and trousers have become gender-neutral over the last few decades in some areas.

A girl can be punished at my school for not wearing a skirt, as it is part of the uniform.
It is the same with boys.

That's great. How does that support your argument?

Would you like to try actually forming a worthwhile argument?

Would you like to stop being so rude and telling me to shut up?

That was not 'telling you to shut up'. That was asking you to form an argument.

Do you want to insult me more?
Please do. But via telegrams.

The problem here is that you are having difficulty with debating.

You have posed a statement without much of a justification.
Others have refuted your justification, and have asked for more.
You have gotten defensive.

This is not conducive to a good debate, and insisting that people are telling you to shut up or are insulting you for saying they find your arguments lacking is both untrue and contributing to a hostile atmosphere in which you are likely to get a hostile answer.

You said "Women have a different natural function than men..." which can be interpreted that you're talking about the function of childbirth and the like.

However, had you said "Women have many different natural functions than men..." followed by a logical argument, we'd be having a different discussion.

I assumed you would have enough intelligence to understand the basic meaning.
I stand corrected.

Both of you are being snippy. Knock it off.

And like I told you, it was a reasonable thing for me to assume based on the fact that you are a Thatcherite. Thatcherites do have a propensity for being sociopaths and miserable control-freaks, and you tend to be openly contemptuous of anything outside your norms or expectations. Just face it, that bitch was a revolting Nazi who had all the humility of a wild boar hog. My assumption about your own views was therefore not only reasonable but most likely correct.

3. Hm, sounds familiar...

You have driven my patience to the end.
Mind your own business. My arguments were worded perfectly.

They were not. And you do not get to tell people to leave this thread, or mind their business.

My suggestion to you is that you explain WHY you hold your opinion, and why it is logical to hold that opinion, as other have asked you, and not to assume that disagreement = insults.

I'm not reopening this thread as it's become irretrievably derailed. If you wish to restart it and respond civilly to civil criticisms, that would be fine.
