The linear plot and the battle system are the greatest flaws I've seen in the FFXIII games. I absolutely hate the codification. If your main dies, you lose the battle. You have two other characters in your group and can't use them in battle. Not to mention that none of the characters in that series, none of them, had any redeeming qualities that endeared them to me. I couldn't empathize. And when I can't empathize, the game just becomes lackluster.

I know what you mean. I have to be honest and say that what attracted FFXIII-2 to me was the fact of time travel. I've been looking forever for a game that implemented that mechanic again. With Lightning Returns though I enjoyed the battle system. Sure, it was just one character in the screen, but you could switch abilities any time and you needed to have a strategy in place. The good thing about Lightning Returns is that they minimized grinding for it (which is bullshit, I don't find a game enjoyable if I have to grind for EXP).

It's Lightning. Gods, I hate her so. So wooden. So... meh. And Hope. I wanted to strangle him from the get go. Ditto with Vanille. I wanted to choke her with that silly whip weapon she had. And the blind imbecil, what was his name? Sera's fiancé. Ugh!!! Feng was a carbon copy of Paine, from FFX-2. And Zahs... Well, he was ok. Or rather, the chicobo nesting in his afro was cute.

To be fair is what I hate about the party system in prior FF games: you always have a third leg that is useless as shit unless they have some sort of super-OP magic that nullifies their uselessness.

Up til FFX-2, and XII, all your characters were controllable by you during battle. If one died, you could still use the other two. XIII eliminated that and it was infuriating.

One thing I'll say about XIII is that, graphically speaking, it was brilliant.

Or just have a shitty anime only ending(like almost every anime in the industry). It's much more rewarding to get the canon story animated(Which is why I love FMAB and Hellsing Ultimate)
