When the restaurant is designed around showcasing women showing more skin than usual in a society where women are often objectified, I think it's degrading.

The degrading part of Hooter's is how they judge you based on breast size. It's not the short shorts and tank tops that are degrading. I heard of a test in which you stand against a wall, and if your breasts and nose both touch the wall, you can work there.

Well, Murky is known for his general opinion about women. As an MRA he considers those to be not really people, and only real people are entitled to have opinions. Of course it doesn't stop there. Freedom of speech should only be enjoyed by white male neocons, of course. Other people just can't handle such intense levels of freedom.

Before I said I found Hooters degrading. I still stand by that but really Hooters just seem degrading for everyone. Reasons I don't go to Hooters, besides the oily food that wouldn't be good for my face, is that I find it degrading, or at least demeaning, having my sexuality taken advantage of so blatantly, though I really don't find any sexual interest in most female bodies. Not that I think it is more degrading for men then it is for women, and of course I am okay with degrading myself as I did in the past if I feel the ends outweigh the negatives. I just don't feel it is like that for going to Hooters.

Also how often is it that Hooters is the only place hiring in a region? At least here there are plenty of restaurants and stores that are hiring. Even In-N-Out which pays about ten dollars an hour.

No, Hooters isn't 'degrading'. It's women's business what they want to do, and they're the ones who judge whether it's degrading or not to do something. If they think it is they will not work at Hooter's. If they have no problems with it or might, god forbid, enjoy such a job, they will work there. No real issue here.

I've only ever been to one once. The food was pretty good, if a bit expensive to me for what it was. *shrug* Much like strip clubs it's not my scene but if other people enjoy it I see nothing to condemn.

As a women, I find Hooters necessary part of our society. Sometimes I have the desire to both eat and check out lovely women and sometimes don't have the time to do both. This is where hooters comes in. It takes two great things, puts them together, cue symphony of angels, and creates a wonderful thing which would make an old guru cry with joy.

On a more serious note, I do think there is a problem with objectification outside of Hooters. Hooters girls clearly don't have a problem with showing off their bodies and with the sexual objectification. But there is a problem outside of there. People, not everyone like being objectified like that. And just because they work somewhere that objectifies them does not mean they like being objectified out of work. People need to learn this most basic concept.

Never been to Hooters but do the worked get sexually harassed often? Besides oogling I suppose, though I do consider that a form of harassment in most cases.
