I think I'm going to give Southampton a go in FM15. I get close to 100 million from the get go, so a full team rebuild doesn't seem completely unrealistic.

Playing specialized roles, and finding the players for them really, are probably the hardest. I had Lamela as an inside forward, and that was nice, but he always tended to take a shot rather than occasionally look for a pass. There was a lot of tinkering to do with him and his position before I put him as an auxiliary striker.
I speak for myself and myself only.

I really suck at this game.

In FM2014 I'm at the end of the 2019/20 season. My career path so far has been Workington (sacked after 6 months) --> Harrogate (resigned after a couple of years stagnating after promotion to the Conference with the board dropping budgets and refusing to go pro) --> Macclesfield (got them promoted back up to the Conference last season, still only just avoided getting sacked because a board took over who were obsessed with the idea of appointing Peter Reid).

I'm probably gonna wait until a steam sale to buy FM2015.

If it's any comfort, Spurs have been only just squeaking away from the relegation zone every season and changing manager at least once a year in my save :p

He's got a knee injury. Which, if Moreno and Johnson are both injured, is going to make this Sunday fun because I don't think Enrique is ready to play.

My bad! Fair enough then.

For the folks here who follow non league - what's going on at Grimsby? Were the last two matches when they totally obliterated Gateshead and Alfreton an anomaly, or do they really have the firepower to get more results like that repeatedly?

Grimsby along with most teams tbh in the conference, have always been a huge threat on their day then can destroy anyone in the league, and likely League 2 as well, but all too often they can't keep it going so to see them do it back to back is slightly worrying. However, Alfreton town are part-timers and really have a terrible defence. They will be in for a few more hidings the rest of the season. Gateshead on the other hand was a big surprise, but they had a lot of inner 'turmoil' with Maddison their top striker trying to work his way out of the club so maybe minds in the wrong place and Grimsby having one of those days where everything just goes in. They struggled against Dover who aren't exactly the strongest of sides and tipped for relegation and only managed a goalless draw against Nuneaton who again aren't renowned for their defence.

Kidderminister are sounding like they are in a little bit of trouble again, having really pushed for promotion, spending above their means and then coming up short.

Villareal looks a challenge. They have got Vela and Mustachio, so there is some quality to break down. Predicting a close first place there. Monchengladbach has some good away games, considering they're not too far away. Spurs have Partizan Belgrade (Serbia), Besiktas (Turkey) and some obscure Greek team that isn't Olympiakos or PAOK.

Group H in Europa looks like the Group of Death. Wolfsburg, Lille and Everton in one group. I can see Wolfsburg and Everton going through, with Lille just missing out.

3rd is a bargan. With the price defenders go for these days he's worth at least 7.5-8 imo.
Nonetheless, there goes Skagger. Now what do we have? Saktel? Kolo Lovren?

I think the 3 million was more of a gesture of goodwill. Nice of Liverpool to do that.

I'm a bit worried about playing them Sunday. There's a very real chance of a draw, but I think that Lamela, Eriksen and Chadli all getting up in Stevie G and their back four's (I still think our defense is better, maybe except for left back) will definitely test them. The counterattack is where the game will be won or lost.

I read it was to keep PSG grabbing him up next year with one year left on the contract. Wonder if that has any validity. Sakho has largely taken his place anyways, since Rodgers doesn't seem to like playing the two together. Not sure what's wrong with two left footed CBs, teams do the same with right footed CBs all the time.

Counterattack vs Liverpool, you say?
Relevant.

I much prefer this version.

There's this strange hope that I have, that Poch knows Lovren well enough to know his weaknesses and make him moot. Not too worried about Sakho other than possible injury to Lamela. Ah well, I think Ade or Chadli could muscle him out anyway.

Yeah it takes ages if you go into full detail.

When I was creating a fantasy game (usually I did one with the players I coach IRL), I used the current ability/potential ability setting more than individual stats. Just a few key stats get done specifically, which is how most players are set in the database anyway. So, like... I'd give myself 17-18 for pace, and a decent jumping stat (because short players always have shit jumping stats) choose traits (like "argue with referee" or whatever) and put current ability at something around average for whatever league I'm putting myself in. The game does the rest for you, and typically the stats match up fairly well. If not, I could always get an in-game editor and tweak things.

Haven't played FM in years though. Last one was 2011 I think. So I dunno how good the dbase editor is, or if anyone has made an in-game editor for this one etc etc.

United's line-up today vs Burnley: De Gea, Jones, Evans, Blackett, Valencia, Young, Fletcher, Di Maria, Mata, Rooney, Van Persie

Behind that front four, they really are second rate. Why splash out £60m when you can spend a lot less to get a decent defender?

Although I hear they've signed Blind, which could help.

United have the potential to put out a decent first XI, their lack of strength in depth is the real problem.

It's just hilarious. I really hope they keep going on with this three at the back business, because it's taking them nowhere.

In a weird way, United reminds me of Spurs last season. Lots of players bought in, playing a fairly new system (one where the attack isn't the ideology of "give it to Bale") and a manager who's been hyped up by his CV. Oh, and no end product to go along with all that.

For those interested in Scottish football, Inverness CT's run continues after a 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock. It'd be hilarious if they kept it up and won this season, especially considering how poor Celtic have been so far. :p

In the Championship, Rangers beat Queen of the South 4-2, Hearts beat Falkirk 4-1 while Hibs were defeated 2-1 by Alloa. Hearts looking real good this season.
