Guns don't kill people, People kill people!

Mass knife-attacks usually result in dozens of injuries. Mass shootings usually result in dozens of deaths.

Bullshit.

L.A. Times looks at 39 of the deadliest mass shootings.

Of the 39 reported here, only 10 resulted in 12 or more deaths (just over 1/4. So much for "usually"). The average is number of deaths is 9 (so much for "dozens").

So do you have another source that says a majority of shootings result in 12 or more deaths? If you do, I'd like to see it.

I'm not talking about mass knife attacks, I'm pointing out that their are other ways to kill people. The Oklahoma City bombing was carried out with Fertilizer, but you can still purchase it at the store dispute the fact that 168 people were killed and scores more injured. Elliot Rodger used a gun in Santa Barbara yes, but he also tried to run people over with his car and he stabbed his three roommates. If some Sicko is determined to kill people they are GOING to find a way to do it, No matter how many laws you have controlling this or banning that!

Conclusion? Don't try and do anything about this. Yeah...

Anyway, there are definitely reasons to separate the two because they do happen for different reasons. Access to weapons is probably the major common denominator although the solutions are quite similar (care about people and work to change the environment). However, this is the sort of division that one is able to make only when one has actually started working on the issues... which the US hasn't really done (as a whole).

It's not a real shooting if it's poor black people. Those only count 3/5ths.

I'd be more concerned that you have 39 "mass shootings" in 30 years.

No. gun control people think that 9 is a dozen or more.

And that legitimate shooting should be counted among gun-crimes.

And that Bloombergs hired publicity consultant really is a typical, grass-roots mom.

Clearly it's all a hoax and guns aren't a problem that needs solving because all gun control people demanded that you believe these things.

Well, technically four of the shootings didn't reach the four deaths needed to be call mass shootings.

Ok, so Jim, you would say 35 is an accurate count of the mass shootings in the USA then for since 1984?

Thats still more than 1 a year...

Indeed. Still insignificant when compared to the number of guns and gun owners in America.

Actually, no you can't. To buy anywhere near the amount of fertilizer you'd need, in the kind you'd need, you need a license. McVeigh single handedly made fertilizer harder to get than a firearm. That stuff you get at Lowes or Home Depot does not have the right chemicals in it to make it explosive.

So we need more guns so that people with guns can't kill people because that would be a crime instead of just making it harder to commit those crimes with regulation?

And maybe gun-lack-of-control people would get more respect if they didn't refuse to value the fact that people are dying for their toys.

Just a thought: What if guns are just outright banned for civilians? Wouldn't that solve much of the problem?

No, because all the criminals would get illegal guns and then all we'd have are cops and people who can disarm people without guns to shield us from the bullets.

Definitions mater to some of us. We don't call a magazine a clip for instance, or a modern rifle an assault rifle. We also recognize the difference between a legitimate shooting and a criminal one.

Arguing semantics and feeling smarter than the other side doesn't unkill kids, Jim. Maybe it wins debates with the summer gun control crowd, but it doesn't do much else.
