I'm no pacifist. Conscription is involuntary servitude (though a far cry from slavery). The nation has an obligation to protect me, not the other way around. I'd only be obligated to defend myself or my family from an "invading force" once that invading force points its guns at us. Not until then.

The state can't protect "you" without your involvement. The state would rather you didn't defend yourself in that manner, as all it's going to do is encourage the shooting and mistreatment of civilians, and your actions in that manner would be far less effective or useful compared to you fighting as a conscript.

It's true! At most, they'd force me to broadcast propaganda messages of love and friendship! Sure, the food would be all-vegetarian, but I'm sure that, if they're winning, they can supply the losers a bountiful feast. Finally, do you REALLY think ponies are capable of brutalizing ANYPONY/ONE? Building roads and other infrastructure would be FUN! And it sure as hell beats having to fight my ass off and be totally demoralized in the style of "Attack on Titan."

I love how many liberals on here like to use the 'social contact' as a justification for having the rich pay a higher tax, and moan and complain when they don't want to, but when it comes to defending that social contract they want nothing to do with it. Typical I guess.

It's interesting that this is what you want to hammer liberals with. That we're okay with taking more money from those who can afford it and not okay with sending throwing fresh meat into the grinder of war. This is like the opposite of being damned by faint praise.
