People have a weird fucking obsession with the sex lives of others, or are projecting their own outdated puritanical shame at having watched the porn in the first place, or they're so absorbed with their own self-righteousness and platitudes that stopped having meaning for most functional adults past the second grade that they are incapable of understanding their own culpability in creating a toxic environment?

Really, if you cannot discount words than you need to work on yourself at a personal level.

Pretty much everybody knows that that saying is bullshit.

I don't think you are posting sincerely.

I am continuously amazed by how so many people can be bothered by harmless things such as words. I don't think people speak or act sincerely. I believe they over react and many times do what they do for attention.

Someone calls you a dickhead walking down the street.

Option 2: Keep walking. Get sandwich and coffee. Go home. Enjoy life.

Thank you. When sit back and look at the full picture, you come to two conclusions . . .

1) These people are dishonest
2) These people really act this way and need to be separated from society as not to be harmed by their inability to operate functionally.

Words, words . . .

Depending on who they're from, the words that come out of their mouth are more than sounds. They're the loss or gaining of respect; unconditional love, or the breaking of what you thought was unconditional; the sign of new friendship growing, or the screams of an old friend getting rid of you.

Implying its that fucking simple. Which it ain't. You have no clue how any of this works.

It is very simple. We all have been insulted or bullied, myself included. Receive words, send some words back if you wish, carry on with life. It is a moment in but a day in but a week in but a month in a but year in but a lifetime. Hearing it from some people, especially those whom you love, may hurt. But, you have to talk about it and come to compromise or at the very least agreement of boundaries. However, everyday people . . . looking at the big picture- it is very much irrelevant.

Yeah, you've just proved you know nothing about this subject.

Words aren't meaningless sounds. They have meaning. They can indeed cut sharper than any knife, burn hotter than any flame, pierce farther than any arrow, whether the person on the receiving end wants them to or not (which you seem to be failing to understand). If you think that you can choose to not be affected by words, and that choice means you won't, then you've been lucky in that nobody's ever insulted you so harshly that they proved you wrong.

When I am cut by a word, burned by a word, pierced by a word, whether or not I want to receive these words, thinking that I can choose to not be affected by these words, meaning I won't, and can document it all with empirical evidence that can be repeated over again in an independent experiment . . . I will believe you that words can do harm, even if people choose for them not to and negate the effects with their self control and good demeanor.

No, that is not equivalent.

Most devout Christians i encounter are bigoted homophobes, thus it is reasonable to say that a good amount of devout Christians are homophobes.

Just stop caring what others think of you.

Why should you let other, close minded, hypocritical, people bug you? Stop caring about what they have to say, about anything that they feel towards you. In the end, if someone is to say harsh things over a personal choice, just drop them. They aren't worth your time anyway.

...which clearly didn't happen in the narrative in the OP. Instead, people seem to have been willing to ignore trying to agree to any kind of boundaries, and just continually inflicted psychological damage on someone until that person actually felt no other recourse than to kill herself.

You're dealing with a false version of reality where people aren't responding to other people's words, and all people are rational actors. In reality, words - even just words - can have real psychological effects, and people don't agree on parameters that they aren't going to transgress.

If you have somehow managed to convince yourself that absolutely everyone but you is inferior, maybe they are not being unreasonable when they say mean things to you? It sounds like they might have a legitimate point.

I never said everyone was inferior. Don't misconstrue my words. Those people who feel so insecure about themselves that they seek others out to put them down are inferior. They have self esteem issues thst go deep. They are not worth my time, and I encourage anyone who is harrassed by someone like that to simply ignore them.

They are inferior, why should I care about what they have to say?

What when they start telling lies about you behind your back which cost you your job, your relationship and your public image ;) ?

Their lies are false. Therefore I deny them. If anyone believes such lies, then they do not deserve to associate with me. Besides, I don't keep many friends. Not many people who would talk, and even then, I know how to smoke out a rat.

Words are meaningless, and forgettable.
