Does it really matter? They believed they were. And as there's no way to objectively determine which is the true belief, their views are as valid as anyone else's.

Actually. God *did* kill just the evil, but then he looked upon the earth and assumed it was beyond salvation and killed everyone. Then he did it again sometime later and apparently routinely does it via mediums such as cancer
