It can be a factor. My parents don't actually have a problem with me dating black guys, but the few times I have tried dating black guys, they got excessively paranoid about it, and it was kind of annoying.

A more serious problem is the harassment from strangers if you happen to live in a racist area or walk through the wrong neighborhood. When I was in college, I had a black boyfriend, and he came to visit me in Des Moines. A black woman literally ran us off the road so she could yell at us through the window about how we didn't belong together. A white gas station attendant ran out of the gas station to write down our license plate number, and when my boyfriend said it was racist, the guy said black people had been stealing his gas. This was just within a week or two. I can understand if someone decides they don't want to put up with that crap the rest of their life.

And then there is the economic side of race issues... Middle class people usually don't want to date someone who is dirt poor, and if there is a correlation between race and economic status, that makes interracial relationships less common.

I know even of Latinos who talk about someone "being a picky person" and worse simply because some of us are also comfortable with dating outside Latinos. Their logic is pretty much "what do X race has that we don't?"

I'm currently in a bit of a situation over this whole idea (Long story, my "friend" decided to send a message from what I said to him about preference in females, which people now interpret as me only wanting to date a white girl, which they're interpreting as racist). I see there being a difference between thinking someone is "good looking" and seeing someone as "attractive". I can find girls of all races good looking, but most of the girls I've found attractive are my own race. I don't know if it's racist, considering that it's subconscious.

It depends, if you'r white then in the eyes of the average person your a racist.

However, I like black women. And I am in a relationship with a black woman, sometimes when we go to a restaurant or public area full of blacks, we get looks. Most of em were frowns.

In short.... Your gonna be either labeled as a racist, a race traitor, or a sista snatcher. No matter what race you prefer.

Being a gay man, I don't find straight guys to be homophobic just because they don't want to date other dudes. In that same line of thinking, is it racist of anyone of any race to have preferences for someone of their own race? Hopefully this clears it up.

No not really. It's like preferring a certain hight or facial structure it has everything to do with simple preference. Now it shouldn't be the only factor on why you don't want to date them but there's nothing wrong with a preference.

On the other hand, if you meet the perfect girl/man and you can't date him/her because they're black or they're not the race you want them to be...that's racist.

If you're not attracted to a certain race then there's no problem. Same as if you're not attracted to a certain gender.
