yeah you can farn, a pervasive developemental disorder is just that its pervasive it colors every interaction these kids make, but its not who they are. people grow comfort zones and dont want to taken out of them, they have developed their tricks for dealing with the world, but it is seeing the world through a distorted lens.

if you talk to say temple grandin (i have) she would not try the newer atypical antipsychotics herself, she prefers the known effects of the drugs she takes, but when talking to new parents to this (whch i was 20 years ago), she recommends them if drugs are necessary, not the elephant tranqulizers she takes to get through her day.

no one is forcing anyone to do anything, if they are happier in their cocoon its their right but to say they wouldnt be better off as a butterfly would be wrong

unfortunately what i think is going to happen is a genitic test will be developed that will somewhat predict autism, much like the afp predicts downs. and the same thing is going to happen to kids who might have autism, to what happens to fetuses who might have downs.

Anyhow, misreading a very important subject, I think people with autism should make the choice whether they want to be 'cured' or not, although I don't think even a majority of the people with autism would want to be cured since it's practically altering a part of their life.

It probably would depend on the severity of the autism.

If a cure is found, we should put all of autism's victims through it. We should disregard what the parent wants as they will use autism as an excuse to keep their children indefinatly. We should let the sufferers have a chance at a healthy lifestyle with genuine hope and happiness.

The only problem is religious beliefs that forbid any sort of medical assistance. How should that be handled then? Here in the usa some people were charged sith criminal negligence for not taking thier child to see a doctor but the case was thrown out because of thier religous beliefs forbidding them to seek medical assistance. I want to say it was a Christian holiness denomination family. They arecthe ones that do not allow women to cut thier hair and are very similar to the amish in many regards.

I agree though if a cure was tound and was safe all should be given it. However someone will seek to profit from it so not all will recieve it. I know I would do what ever it takes to get the cure for my niece and nephew how ever.

Autism is entwined with personality, if you want it or not. It's because SOME forms of autism (and then it still differs per person) limits or strengthens someone's observation skills, whether it is hearing, understanding certain emotions or else.

For example, I have a problem with noise and not being able to understand any messages brought over to me by speech while there's a lot of noise around me due to only being able to process one message at a time. Another thing is that I had a lot of problems using speech myself and partly because of that I HATE communicating using speech.

Again, please don't say everyone. Many of us prefer and like having autism. Obviously yours is not one of those cases. So a cure might benefit me, but please never try to give it to me.
