Now, someone who's job is to protect said people? There's no excuse.
Spitting on someone is an insult that can really piss them off to the point of violence, but him having CP and the offender being a safety officer, there's just no way you could think that's right.

Hopefully he has a long time to think about what he's done.

That's the problem with unfortunately too many authority figures/people in power. I mean, it sounds to me like this guard was just hyped up to be filling in for the school resource officer (who is normally a cop in many districts) and got way way out of hand abusing his power and authority because hey it felt good too him.

Well in that case given the potential threat to free speech which affects everyone rather than a near trivial minority, I'd prefer to air on the side of excluding the warning to avoid possible chilling effects thank you very much.

Let's start with this one: the definition of trival = of little worth or importance. Usually we don't refer to fellow humans as "trival" especially if they suffer from PTSD or other issues. It's also not an issue of chilling free speech, news shows have been using the "viewers might find this disturbing" for many years, calling that chilling free speech is laughable.

The security guard was a asshole. He had no right to beat the kid up.

If you were the judge, what sentence would you give him?

I couldn't see the video, since I'm on a phone with a limited wifi connection. If I saw the video, I could see how bad it actually was.

But, I'm guessing the kid was hurt pretty bad, based off the OP, so I'd give the officer a few years in jail.

Community service as an orderly in a prosthesis center.

That's it? He beat up a minor in a wheel chair, the guy should do at least 10 years.

I was thinking that 200 hours of having to wheel people where they tell him to might straighten him out. The maximum sentence in the UK would be 3 years but community service is a possiblity.

That is with extenuating circumstances. For a misdemeanour battery its 6 months, 1 year if its on school grounds.

Actually not terrible though the kid claims persisten pain, I'm not inclined to disbelief him either. That said, it was by no means especially brutal, the fact that it was a disabled kid he was picking on here is what aggravates the crime in my opinion, and yeah, I'm guessing that while a normal person, would certainly have felt getting violently slapped around and definitely had bruises I'm less convinced that a normal person would be suffering the same degree of pain. Don't know if that helps much. (also not using normal offensively I'm just saying, a helathy non diabled person of the same age gender build etc)

Depends on the degree of remorse here, plus what witnesses say, what the victim testifies too etc. Plus who knows there maybe guidelines or mandatory minimums here so how much discretion one has may ultimately be "limited" anyway.

Safety officers, at least in NYC, are a division of the police force, NOT of the schools.

1) He had no business touching Martinez' wheelchair. For fuck's sake, that's like grabbing and pushing a student's body. You do NOT lay hands on someone without permission.

2) He had no business handcuffing the boy for making it clear he did not want to be touched.

3) Hitting the boy had the proper consequence: arrested, charged with a felony, fired.

Mighty damn tired though of one asshole's actions being used as a throwaway to bash the entire system, though.

I agree they should be part of the police force. It helps them be more professional and better trained. Also officers rotating to Resource officer duty enjoy the more down played.

In short, kid had no right to slap then spit on the RSO. However, that doesn't justify the RSO doing what he did, even though I can understand why he was upset after being spit on.

Screw rights. The asshole deserved to be spat on, and all of society should do the same and spit on him as well. That is a deterrent punishment, and we won't have to deal with shit like this from other people.

It's an SJW term meaning you identify as an autistic person on the inside. Yes. Really.
