IIRC he spent a few days going to a range and renting a pistol while he waited to receive his firearms.

My take on this is that he was evidently motivated at least in part by hatred of women, perhaps slightly more than his hatred for all the other people he had a hard on for. As his last video was primarily about women, it's clear they were at least on his mind as he planned his attack. However, the way the event is being co-opted by members of the feminist crowd as an exclusively anti-women event is both disgusting and dishonest.

Most of the rant was about women and how he was going to kill women. Also, almost all his other videos are addressed at women, they are not addressed at us males (except for one or two where he goes on about guys in fraternities). Clearly there's a profile that his views triggered the incident. His manifesto isn't coincidential of "oh let's just dismiss it" when his youtube videos have a clear profile of someone who is desperate to get laid, and is at the same time mentally unstable.
