For me this is a local news story, it just happened to run in conjunction with the report on the Santa Barbara shooting and they had the sense to relate the inherent similarities (while stressing that the crimes are not related in that Santa Barbara was premeditated and this was, apparently, specific and spur of the moment). But this is not going to be a national story, I mean, for Stockton even this is hardly enough to make the news when so many people who fire guns actually hit people in Stockton. But had I not been watching local news because my %*$*()#& remote stopped working again, I wouldn't have known about it. Had I not included this story, pretty likely anyone not in Northern California would have heard about it. Had this douchenozzle not done what he did, I may not have heard about it. And yet, it did happen. It could be argued rather than it not happening, up to this point 'we' simply didn't care.

Well I think the idea is the more we understand these things, hopefully the easier they'll be to prevent or at least mitigate. I me yeah, wars happened since people began organizing into tribes, but we evolved and now have laws and rules to warfare which help minimize casualties in wars.
