Shit happens. Germany (as well as Spain, to a lesser extent) are a great, disciplined, well-organized and motived team. As much as it pains for me to say it — and it really does — they deserved that win, and they saved their best for us. However, I wouldn't say we're not living up to our rankings and history. We might not be the best in the world anymore, but I can safely say we're among the top five at least.

Yes, it does. But the fact that you insist on rating a team's quality based on only one game shows how much you know about football.

I can say that Brazil swinged from decent to mediocre to bad during the whole cup, hitting its highest points against Colombia.

I dunno how you performed in the qualifiers, though.

A lot happened in that game. We did a mediocre campaign for our standards but as you said, all teams have their ups and downs.

Considering I live in the Aerican Empire, of course I don't know much about football. The national sport here is Boule Lyonniase.

But anyways, any word on riots in the streets of Brazil yet? I haven't checked LiveLeak in a while so I'm behind on the news.

Brazil are a good team, but their entire way of playing football was defeated by the German philosophy. Not just the 11 on the pitch. The whole game you see David Luiz lumping the ball or getting closed down because he has no outball in midfield. Brazil's were humbled by Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Khedira. Who were physical enough to hold the ball and were able to pass at will to the world class runners ahead of them. Paulinho, Fernandinho and Luis Gustavo were hopeless, out of position and unable to affect their opposition trio's distribution, getting bypassed on the counter.

The 7-1 was a combination of the pressure on the players and their total tactical failure. They can still beat Germany on their day, but the whole tactic was wrong, starting with the attacking posture from the start.
