I admit, it's really heartbreaking to see the fans like this, to watch Brazil play this horrifically. This wasn't even a normal defeat, which I thought would happen with Neymar and Silva's absence anyway. They were routed.

This wasn't even a rout. In military terms, this was a low-yield nuclear strike, and the bomb hit at the 23rd minute.

I will be changing my opinion on the Argentina and Netherlands game. Either of them have an equal chance of winning but now I lean somewhat toward Argentina for two reasons.

1. Tomorrow, July 09 is when Argentina and the Netherlands play each other. It is also Argentina's Independence day. Which means the players will be playing harder. After all, if they lose they cannot go back to Argentina. :o

2. The other reason is this song written to cheer on Argentina in the games. Its different but catchy. And the video shows the real ordinary fans.

Sure, a couple of extra time minutes might do the trick... Sadly, the score wasn't 1-1, which means no extra time.

Gatuliere Deutschland!

I feel sorry for the Brazilians, tbh. I expected Germany to win, but i didn't expect them to overrun Brazil.
It's like, without Neymar, the Brazilian team lost their confidence...

It's one thing to celebrate the defeat of another team, it's another to actually enjoy the heartbreak of that team's fans. Especially if they are as dedicated to that team as the Brazilians were.

"Schadenfreude" is a German word. :P

So, who are we backing in the finals? Germany is certainly going in with a bonus to their intimidate score, after trouncing the Brazilians like that. The other side - Netherlands or Argentina? Can either one defeat the German war machine?

Netherlands could do it. They did a similar thing in their match again Spain (1-5), so this monstrous score shouldn't intimidate them much.

Every team in world cup history safe for Saudi Arabia performed better against Germany than Brazil did.

It is almost heartbreaking how, where I watched the game, nobody even cared anymore when Özil almost made the 8:0.

I've now watched last night's match - and no, I didn't know the score before sitting down to watch the full replay over breakfast (thank you, BBC iPlayer).

I don't think a Caesar's done that badly against the Germans since the 31st of December, 406 AD.

And Dante has no chance of reaching Purgatory, never mind Paradise; he'll always be consigned to the Inferno after last night.

I could keep going, but otherwise I doubt I could say anything that hasn't been said by plenty of people before, and possibly by other people in this thread (which I've only skimmed since yesterday); but, for the record....

Germany are first side to score seven goals in a World Cup semi-final.

Six goals is the largest margin of victory in a World Cup semi-final; the previous five-goal record margin was set by the semi-finals in 1930 (both of which ended 6-1).

No team has previously scored five goals inside the first 30 minutes in a World Cup match.

Brazil's previous heaviest defeat in a World Cup match was 3-0 (in the 1998 final).

Kroos' two goals in 69 seconds was the fastest margin for one player to score two goals in succession in tournament history.

Brazil hadn't lost a competitive fixture at home since 1975.

Brazil last lost by six goals in 1920 (a 6-0 loss to Uruguay).

Miroslav Klose is now the all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup history - surpassing Brazil's Ronaldo in Brazil against Brazil.
