Too bad. I'm of the opinion that gay marriage ought to be allowed because the writings of stupefied, illiterate peasants and merchants are not to be taken seriously when considering modern civil rights. Books like the Koran and Bible have nothing to offer on this issue.

This is not a religion thread.

It turned into one as soon as he cited religion as a reason for homosexuality being wrong and immoral. He wants to bring big guns to the table, I'll meet him at it. So unless he'd like to leave religion out of this, I won't, either.

Unless anyone has a valid, secular reason why gay marriage shouldn't take place, I don't see any excuse besides pure bigotry when opposing the union of two people who love each other and can give legal consent.

Western Europe no longer has problems with gays because they legalized gay marriage almost entirely in Western Europe. Eastern Europe is more reserved about it but is changing slowly, except in Russia they are going backwards compared to Western Europe .
