Who is the COOLEST leader in history?

Postby Shie » Sun May 04, 2014 10:14 am

Before we start, an admonition. What is cool?
Image

Let's go to the italian concept of omerta, not telling the authorities anything about anybody. That attitude migrated into African American blues and gospel music then translated into rhythm n' blues. The attitude of not caring what the authorities think and remaining above the situation is "cool", especially when an authority figure assumes that pose. Modern leaders are now a staple of pop culture. Proof?
Image
That puts people like Elvis Presley in the same league as John F. Kennedy. JFK's family and public persona were media darlings. He was diagnosed with Addison's Disease, a potentially fatal condition, it left him with a permanent tan. JFK managed to create a public image immensely attractive to much of America.

Image
He was the first "television President;" with his charm and good looks he took full advantage of that medium to capture and engage the hearts of Americans (indeed, the relationship JFK shared with America has often been referred to as a love affair). JFK inspired in many a powerful optimism and idealism, and he seemed poised to carry the U.S. out of trying times. His life and presidency were cut short by an assassin's bullet on November 22, 1963 (A cool way to die). JFK's death was undeniably tragic, but it had the effect of cementing and amplifying his legacy because it was such an impactful way of dying.

How cool was John F. Kennedy?

John F. Kennedy was so cool that Barack Obama follows in his footsteps.
Ex. Obama being cool.

I think JFK is probably the coolest but Obama is a close second.

While we're on the subject, can a republican that isn't Ronald Reagan be cool? The reason why I consider Reagan the exception is because he was President during the "coolest" era in american history when so many concepts became marketable. Including cool.

A combination of Nahuatl, Chinese, modern Mexican, and Early Soviet futurist elements. Picture modern Aztecs covered in tattoos with bright blue teeth, sombreros and togas smoking portable hookahs, dwelling in art deco houses, riding buses fueled by Ammonia, and living in a profoundly Communist society, and you have us, mostly
Schizo-Tech. Some is modern, some is past, some is future. Our civilization evolved very idiosyncratically. Does hydroponic agriculture count as modern if it was used since antiquity? Is an RBMK reactor past tech if we invented solutions to its problems beforehand? Where does using Ammonia as a fuel source fall? Who can say?

Ronald Reagan wasn't cool, he was inspiring to racist old people. Despite what the fascists will tell you, Ronald Reagan was not "hip wit da kidz". It's not like you had Billy Idol running for President.

Napoleon Bonaparte, He was a great general, who despite his height, became respected and feared. In modern wording, he became, "A boss"

Theodore Roosevelt, Julius Caesar, Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, or Napoléon Bonaparte. It's a tie between them all. They were all so awesome in their own ways, it's hard to decide between them.

Americans, hands off Ukraine and let Russia do what they will in their own sphere of influence! You are not the world's police!

You know, for his time period, Napoleon was of average height.

Throughout history doesn't specify "having already happened", so I'm going to go with Paul Atreides because the prompt didn't exclude future history, even made up future history.
