Literacy rates were increased though so I suppose the guy did some good. However, he did also ban a lot of trivial things apparently.

It's pretty obvious the guy couldn't have killed 100's of thousands of people anyway, the population of Albania back then was barely 2 millions, statistically it just doesn't add up.

The birth to death ratio under Hoxha was pretty normal, and funnily it was actually better back in the 70's than under modern Albania, which is one of the most impoverished states of Europe.

I had this discussion with somebody today and they were pretty sure it was Ceausescu who banned those things. Maybe. I'm not drawing any conclusions yet as Hoxha banned some things. Beards, for example, which he associated with Islam.
