Hm, besides politics, I think the most valuable thing NSG taught me was that I'm usually wrong.

I definitely like to believe I have learned much more about the world than I had when I first came here.

Not directly, but discussions with various people here has changed my political positions over time. Closing in on a decade of Nationstates, so it's tough to attribute any of the changes to individuals.

NS actually managed to strengthen my faith in democracy. When I joined, I certainly believed in democracy, but my belief in democracy is further cemented.

It taught me I am better than homeless people and can taunt them for it.

It taught me that I should buy a gun specifically used to shoot at religious emissaries coming up to my door.

It taught me that Russia is stupid as fuck, which mainly is because of Putin being an utter dipshit.

Legalize owning RPG's and nuclear weapons, reinstate hanging, add in burning meat grinders, stop giving shits for airplane crashes, shut the fuck up about banning guns, the south will NOT rise again, you are just ignorant, look down on the poor, modify genetics so fat kids taste like bacon, cats are better than dogs, if you don't like what's going on in the middle east, fix it yourself, Obama is a good president, just a bad Congress, MLP is a kickass show.

More importantly, I believe I became more honest about my opinions as a result of NSG. Regardless of the consequence too.

I started as a left-leaning centrist (hard to believe but I was) and then I shifted to the right and I'm now a libertarian-conservative but I would say that my issues changed due to real life rather than NSG mainly because NSG takes up 1% of my actual time in Nationstates (24% NS RP; 30% Forum 7; 45% P2TM)

My views have changed over the last few years, but not because of NSG. I mean, NSG focusses mainly on US politics and I quite frankly don't give two shits what goes on in America.

But I have committed political apostasy, going from being a left-wing, socialist, Labour supporter to now being a paid up Tory.

It's taught me that when people argue with me or folks I agree with, they're often arguing with some perverse caricature of what they think we believe. I suppose I've learned not to do the same thing when possible.
I'm utopian? I think it's more utopian to believe things can carry on as they are now.
I'm a compulsive editor. Sorry about that.

We do tend to be America-focused. My personal favorite is seeing people talking about the politics of some other country and having some American idiot post "but that is unconstitutional".

Alright. My economic views shifted a ton in the year I've been on NS.

I went from being a social democrat, to a democratic socialist, to a full on Marxist, back to a social democrat, back to Marxism, and then I became a third way social democrat, and now I'm centrist, and I've been a centrist for a long time.
