Several years ago, I heard of a study that showed African-Americans were more likely than white Americans to believe in innate racial differences. However, I am not sure if I can find it again or if it has been discredited by more recent research. I have to agree with Sun Wukong's point about ethnic groups whose response to outsiders is to shoot them on sight. African-American culture does have a really unhealthy fixation on race, but it's not the only culture that is like that. It's open to discussion why African-American culture is like that in the first place and what, if anything, should be done about it.

African-American culture is like that because it was a point of unity in the face of discrimination.

That is part of it, but I think there are other factors as well. Part of it is just human beings' natural preference for people like themselves, the same reason why racist attitudes exist in any culture. There is also a lack of effort by the education system to address the issue. In some ways, the education system is still geared toward white students, so the efforts to combat racism are mostly about teaching white students to respect blacks without giving adequate time to other sides of the race issue.

The logic behind me providing "sources" for my brief explanation into my daily life is unsound. My entire post was stated early on (and if you didn't get it by the end, you are dense) that these were personal references into my life; a life that was spent in largely minority neighborhoods, poor neighborhoods, rich neighborhoods, and largely white neighborhoods. I am not saying I grew up in the most ghetto places in the country nor the worst either. Once again though; I will not dig deep into my life to provide you with "sources". Maybe because finding people belonging to the same minority as you can be difficult in certain areas. For instance, you would have a hard time finding someone of African descent in my area, because my area is so overwhelmingly Latin and Caucasian you'd think we are Tolkien's Middle Earth.
