Nobody deserves ethnic scholarships. Someone's race doesn't make them any more qualified to get a scholarship than anyone else./Thread

Being black is correlated with being poor. Being poor is a surefire way to need money for college. Therefore being black is correlated with needing money for college.

So do Polish, Italian, Irish, Ukrainian, German, French, Portuguese, etc.

Basically, if you are a European-American, then you can get a scholarship for being a European-American.

European-American = white

EVIL RACISM! I bet all the black students are whining and protesting about this blatant discrimination. In fact, I bet there are hundreds, maybe even thousands as many scholarships for being white than being black.

1. Yes. They offer scholarships to african american students because they recognize that african americans have very low rates of college attendance and seek to remedy this through financial encouragement in the form of scholarships.
2. You've got every other non-race based scholarship to apply for.

Yes but that is a really bad way of organizing scholarships. There are of course rich black families and poor white families; as such it should be based on household income.

It may be that a majority of those receiving scholarships where Black students but that's different from having a scholarship FOR black students.

Saying that I don't mind if a private individual sets up a scholarship exclusively for black students its just if its one provided by the school.

You nailed it. I'm against race-based affirmative action. Income-based affirmative action makes much more sense.
