Being a minority student means you are less likely to get a scholarship. On the other hand, white students are more likely to get a scholarship.

It's important to note that for the most part, this doesn't appear to be deliberate, intentional discrimination.

"It kind of raises the question of what exactly are the priorities here?" he said. "You have institutions that are giving out merit- and need-based aid, and the merit-based aid seems to be much more likely to be awarded to non-minority students. With the scholarships, it seems to be not any deliberate discrimination, just perpetuation of historical differences."

Here in New York, I know there are some schools that offer scholarships for Italian-American's and Irish American's. And there are ones for others I can't remember.

Private scholarships can have whatever criteria they want. If there aren't enough out there for something you think there should be, set one up.

I think even if they offered us free college grants in the US a lot of people wouldn't take it. Sadly

That's the key reason I would never consider moving to the United States in my early adulthood. Here I can go to both college and university free of charge. It's a pretty big part of life here, it's almost standard for someone to have a college education here. It's a shame it's not the same for yourselves.

A few schools actually fund those scholarships, but most of them are in fact funded by someone else. Either way, it's pretty damn stupid. I'm proud to be white and I feel that if a black man deserves a scholarship for being black without needing a single bit of effort to get it, I should have to fit in the same criteria.

African Americans are disadvantages in America, they are the poorest minority in the nation and most of them cannot afford to go to university.
If it weren't for those scholarships many smart and hard working African Americans would never get the chance to go to university and then get a good job. Instead they would be poor and some might even resort to crime to survive.

African Americans suffer institutionalised discrimination, for centuries they were denied an education, that created an uneducated group of individuals, those people then had children but studies have found that children of those without an education generally do not receive an good education due to the poverty caused by their parents lack of education.
Due to the massive poverty which African Americans suffer from many can't afford to reach university and instead have to take low paying jobs, their children will most likely follow in the cycle.

These scholarships allow bright African American children to break out of the cycle of poverty. I personally believe it is a great thing, however I would prefer it if all education was free.

I don't see why your making a big deal about. Sorry privet scholarships aren't aimed at white who statistically have an easier time entering into colleges. There are scholarships for being white you just need to know where to look I mean I got $300 cut of my tuition for being a white male living in Kansas so they are out there you just need to look.

Back in 1978. The Supreme Court upheld affirmative action but struck down quotas.
