I just realized I'm a minority on this website. It's an odd feeling.

I believe that restriction of adult content is the responsibility of the parents or guardians, not the government. It seems the UK Government is becoming stupider as the days go on.

And the minimum age at eighteen for pornographic content doesn't make any sense whatsoever, as sixteen year olds can legally have sexual intercourse in Britain.

do you think the current system is so broken that we literally need to call up the chinese (this is not a joke) and ask them to help us build a great firewall that will only be used to protect the children i swear and maybe totes accidentally ban non-pornographic websites for LGBT teens? (which has already happened) (oh and in i think finland they started banning anti-government sites too, lol)

it's actually pretty disingenuous when people frame opposition to policies like this as "why do you want children to get porn?"

not forgetting that massive government filter isn't actually the only way to stop kids getting porn.

I'm not sure which filter you're refering to with the LGBT site, but iirc that was either a single isolated incident from one ISP that was quickly revoked, or the mobile ISP that had introduced a variable-level filter years before this debate came up, that was deliberately designed to block everything and be used to whitelist acceptable websites.

Either way, your accusations of disingenuity are somewhat hypocritical.

Yes, because the only sex education children need or recieve to stop them getting pregnant is porn. You know, that porn that's so well know for promoting the use of protection.

This is good! At least, I think so. I can't really conceive how this could be viewed as horribly authoritarian. I suppose I simply don't get people.

Again, that's Tory logic for you. They don't really understand how the internet works, let alone how to properly regulate society.

Quite clearly Tory government wants to increase the population of UK so it can create a larger army to invade Federation of Europe in the near future, people jerking off rather than having actual sex is harmful to this purpose therefore porn is more damaging to British people than sex is.

If they want proof I'm an adult they can take a look at what I'm pulling out of my shorts when I go to these porn sites.

Careful, they might force porn sites to turn on webcams for confirmation.

Because nobody wants to put their credit card details into porn sites just to access porn. Nobody supports this moronic "think of the children" shit. It's freedom-restricting legislation that isn't supported by anyone, which leads me to question, why? Cameron is too smart to genuinely believe any of the moralistic shit, he only does it to pander to a base. Thus he must have an ulterior motive. Probably another way of simply trying to edge censorship onto the internet. But even if it was just moralising BS, he's forcing his stupid ass views on an unwilling public, which is not acceptable.
