The situation in Ukraine shows how quickly that can change. The less than 2% budget that some European countries have pursued has been an irritant to the USA for some time, they view such moves as possible only because the US is underpinning said countries

No it doesn't.

Yes, yes it does. It's been that way since the end of the second world war and it hasn't changed since the end of the cold war aside from being put to the sidelines in terms of overall strategic importance.

NATO and more specifically, the EU, is more than capable of repelling any would-be Russian invasion on their current budgets.

No, not more specifically the EU, just NATO. The EU lacks the framework, experience and mandate in terms of military operations for anything close to what you're proposing.

With or without the US, the remainder or Europe is perfectly safe from a Russian invasion and Russia knows they wouldn't be able to win.

Well, you're a lot more confident about it than more than a few security analysts. Having actually studied this particular subject, however, i'm inclined to disagree.

Yeah given that nukes are still a thing, I don't think a European war is very likely.

Yes, America is still the world's superpower but it is quickly losing status, economically, to China as it continues to grow in power - all thanks to the State Owned Banks.
Is it so; that anything could mean nothing; and knowing that is all; could make it all worse?

Really? Which Russian pipelines go to China and what's China going to do with the gas supplies it already has?

There is the eastern Siberia- pacific oil pipeline, and they can easily build a gas one. Erm I'm not sure if you've noticed but china has an insatiable demand for fuel which is still skyrocketing. I'm sure they would seize upon the chance for more energy flowing into china especially one type that's cleaner than the coal they use so much of now.

Yes. Yes, America is still a "superpower". Don't worry, little Johnnie - Unca Sam can still nuke the whole world twice over, has more aircraft carriers than the rest of the planet combined, still spends six times as much on its military as the next-biggest spender and is still the world's largest arms exporter.

And yes, you still routinely get to strongarm even your nominal "allies" into agreeing to treaties only marginally less unequal in nature than those imposed upon Qing China by the Europeans in the 19th century, throw your weight around in international negotiations which should be of no concern to you and generally put your government's 2c worth forward on every issue to an audience which dares not treat even Washington's most sanctimonious and hypocritical pronunciations with the contempt they deserve.

But please, be worried - the military-industrial complex needs more of your tax dollars right now, or else the dirty commies terrorists win!

You don't want to be unpatriotic, do you citizen?
Fuck it all. Let the world burn - there's no way roaches could do a worse job of being decent than we have.

There is more to this conflict than the do all end all of options. The removal of the US from the European arena brings about a vacuum of military power, a good chunk of which can potentially fall to Russia and cause the biggest shift in the balance of power since the collapse of the USSR.

Which is why the US should slowly reduce its military influence in Europe.

Nope; but we can say they're not as influential in the Near East as they used to be in the past. They have still yet to get rid of Assad, for example. Russia seems to be scoring points against the US in the region.
