Is your nation a joke, or are you joking?

My nation is a simulation of the Soviet Union. I am serious about liberals wanting to make part of the constitution invalid.

I say no, wether or not the ideas in it are or not is not relevant. The aim of the document is likely to show how American society should be run, however looking at history, there have been too many exceptions to this rule for it to be true. The slaves did not get their rights from the bill of rights, neither did the natives, neither did the anarchists, neither did the communists. This means that it has little to no power to regulate society or government, making it a useless piece of hemp paper.

If a law is broken or enforcement thereof carried out inappropriately, is it then invalid?

Of course it is, it protects people from extensive government outreach, and sets guidelines for the government. Without it, the government has the potential to turn into one like North Korea's.

The damn thing was made to protect from government abuse. Many people say its invalid, but they're only considering the second ammendment.

When has the constitution prevented genocide in the country, human rights violations or slavery? These are three things that the US has done under the constitution, if it still does these things, it has no viable power.

The reason why it hasn't prevented many things from happening is because the government hasn't followed the Constitution. If the government did, we wouldn't be in this hellhole that were currently are in.

As a document produced by a tyrant government rebelling against the lawful sovereign no.
As a pseudo-religious-text which a country tries to run itself by, yes, but it's a really bad way of doing things.
Read "A Man For All Seasons". That explains most of what I believe in. Except the Catholic bits.

Outside of here I do lead a rather unusual and colourful life. As a Spinster.

I doubt we'd have rebelled against merry old England, if they had you know, not denied us the same rights that British Citizens in England enjoyed, you know like representation in parliament, and not being subject to onerous and unfair taxes. ;)

Well there is another thread on here about making Obama a monarch so perhaps it isn't all that far fetched that in the absence of a constitution restraining govt power and authority someone might conceivably go all Kim Jong on the USA but yeah, it is kinda far fetched.

The UN Declaration of Human Rights has been broken; so we ought to get rid of it and make genocide legal.
Peace treaties have been broken; get rid of them and go back to war.

But do you really, I mean, I don't want to sound like a conspiracist, but do you really think a piece of paper is going to stop someone who really, really, really, wants to be dictator for life? And has the force to enact such dictatorship?

Yeah just look at Richard Nix. I mean he literally named himself after the Greek goddess of darkness.

Well, arguably no one has been elected to more then two terms since Roosevelt, so so far it kinda seems to be working. At the very least it seems to impede a legal and non-violent assent to the thrown for any would be dictator though numerous other countries with democratically elected govts adn constitutions have been taken over in military coups. Of course that doesn't always go so well for the guys taking power as by violating the constitution they are seen externally and evenly internally (even when popular) as being illegitimate rulers and they tend to face international sanctions and have to contend with internal guerilla attacks in many cases. ;)

But no I suppose in the face of either absolutely overwhelming support or enough fire power one could become a dictator despite the constitution. Again, though it raises a very high barrier which few can meet and which even fewer would try to surmount.
