I think it's wrong this minority of people is punished simply because some of them can't control their urges and resort to crime to fulfill them. People always talk about the danger to society their criminal members pose but seem uncomfortable with the idea that there are pedos out there who don't molest kids, who try to be good people and who wish they were born different.

I think many of the calls for understanding when it comes to say, homosexuality, would be ignored when it comes to this touchy subject. It seems arbitrary that homosexuality is acceptable but pedophilia is immoral.

I'm not saying it should be acceptable to have your way with kids. Maybe in the future the Japanese will build robots for those people stricken with taboo urges. Then more of them will come out of the little kids closet and we can be more understanding of one another. As it stands, pedophiles are reviled, even when they haven't done anything. Why should they continue to silently suffer?

Well...it is still a crime. Crime gets punished. And they are sick, whether they can control their urges or not. Sex with children, especially non-consensual, is just plain wrong. I have no pity for pedophiles.

Becaue the fullfulment of their urge hurts children.

Partly because theres not a quick way of saying "people who fuck children"...

The rest is because its wrong to like something which the majority has deemed immoral (even if you don't act on it).

I don't like their tendencies, and I guess you could change yourself with extensive therapy and/or medication, but that's like asking homosexuals to take pills to make them straight again, they do have a right to. So long as they don't break any laws, I will respect them as best I can, despite their....unprefferable tendencies.

Pedophilia isn't a crime, molesting children is, which is I think the point he's trying to make.

I was talking about the molesting part, but I guess I didn't make that clear. I don't care if people think about sex with children, as long as it stays in their head. And whether it is right or not, pedophiles will probably never be accepted.

Agreed. As a libertarian, though, I must defend these people's right to their mentality, however detestable it is.

Hey, libertarianism has limits though.

It's not like I'm diehard, anarchist libertarian. I just think that if it stays in there head, and don't make moves on any children (let alone commit the horrible deed), they shouldn't be officially punished. Now, I also won't grant them safety from others remarks, as they have the right to speak their minds and opinions.

Indeed. It's an important distinction. It's hard for them to come forward to seek psychological help, because even in the psychological community, if one hears "I am a pedophile," instantly this is taken to mean "I molest children" instead of "I am sexually attracted to children but want help to avoid ever doing this."

One thing that's always bothered me is lumping children in with teenagers when it comes to sex crimes. I can think of multiple instances in which a teenager girl took sexually provocative pictures of herself, disseminated them, was caught, and then charged for possession, distribution and creation of child pornography. Further, they even had to register as sex offenders, despite the act involving consent and their own body.

Men can retain a full erection when not wanting to, when afraid or angry. There have been a few cases of a woman raping a man, and because he was erect, it was perceived as consent and desire. Keep in mind that sodomy and forced penetration of an orifice is also counted as rape/molestation, too. However, female rapists are incredibly rare, compared to male rapists.

Not true that fantasies always lead to realization. Many people have fantasies that will never come true, or they will never act on.
