Apparently, a misguided woman named Suey Park doesn't seem to understand how jokes work, and has never watched The Colbert Report in her entire life.

Apparently, people like Suey Park might be quite oblivious for believing that parody of racists is as bad as actual racism. They just claim to hide behind a cloak of race doesn't exist thus racism shouldn't exist without understanding that humanity has a tendency to divide people into categories. The SECOND thing that REALLY pisses me off about this is that it distracts from what Colbert was originally trying to do, and that's call attention with how ridiculous the Washington Redskins are in trying to preserve their stupid name. #FuckingJackets.

I don't see an issue with the Washington Redskins fighting to keep their name. We put Native American names to things we think are important. One of the best attack helicopters in the U.S. military is named the 'Apache'. The Apache were a vicious people that fought bravely and with incredible skill for 250 years against the Spanish, Mexican and American armies. We embody their resolve and will to fight by naming something after them that is just as deadly. All these names, baseball, cars, football, hockey, etc. etc. are not meant to be insults or racist ignorance-- they're meant to be honorifics for the people that we fought for so long and to the people we now come to respect and call fellow Americans.

Mmm, of course the difference there is that 'Apache' is at least likely adapted from a peoples' name for themselves. To borrow your example, this is akin to building a transport helicopter and having someone dub it the 'Niggercopter' after the slaves that were worked to death on plantations. It may be intended out of some sort of good will, but that's doesn't really excuse how terrible the 'execution' is.

Park has no real reason to be angry about the 'joke'. More people should have better senses of humor, because Colbert's 'jokes' are tired tripe. But to each their own I suppose. *shrug*

Oh believe me I'm fully aware of the cretins that whisper sweet nothings about social justice (I have a blog on tumblr myself) and the issue with those people is that they don't understand fully WHAT it all actually means or signifies. To these people they see racist hatred when we name professional sports teams stuff like 'Indians' or 'Redskins', when in reality it's not to disparage those people its to uplift them and make them prideful because millions of Americans worship the Washington Redskins or the Cleveland Indians or the Atlanta Braves. They forget that and assign racism to the teams and their mascots and theme songs and that's truly the crime. The ones fighting for 'social justice' are the people who are the most ignorant of the social issues they try to fight for.
