This reminds me of a funny story. The girl I took to prom's birthday is on March 15th, the Ides of March. I tried to explain the significance of this, as it was the day Julius Caesar was assassinated, which lead to a civil war that would eventually lead to Octavius (Augustus) forming the Roman Empire.

It went in one ear out and the other, and she proceeded to talk about the laughable sport of women's lacrosse.

At least she didn't ask you who Caesar was...

Where I come from, that's practically the reality. Not to exaggerate or anything but whenever I mention anything related to politics or current affairs, nearly every girl will either: a) Brush me off or b) Give me the "polite-but-still-gonna-think-you-came-from-the-planet-Zog" uneasy smile.

Maybe because politics is kind of a heavy topic for people who don't know each other well and a great majority of people, men, women, and others all included, don't really want to discuss those things when they are beginning a friendship/relationship? I know that people who are overly into their own political ideology to the point where they have to discuss it on a first date geeeeenerally don't do to well because it's really, really, really annoying.

I see where you're coming from on that. But I've never even really gotten around to a discussion on politics. Usually the other party asks me about my interests to which I then reply, thereby torpedoing all chances of a second or third date.

Ah but that's not the reason why I suck at courtships though.

I would be fine if I had some peace of mind with my partners. There's gotta be at least somebody who isn't marred with issues that make me be all depressed and shit and be in constant argument with them every day.

THe fact I haven't found a single partner like that is, quite honestly, more depressing than the thought of being alone.

That person has severe issues, and yes, you don't have to subject yourself to that. But honestly, those cases are not as common as finding more levelheaded people. And even levelheaded people have issues too. The difference is in how you deal with your issues. Don't take it out on your partner. Don't make your issues the focus of your relationship. Learn to deal.
