Not okay, but understandable. I favor commonsense in justice, and if he has no history of violence or crime, there's no point ruining his life over this. Anger management, community service, etc. might be a better way to handle it.

If he is the type of person to beat up a kid on the mere suspicion of him having sex with his consenting, legally able daughter, how much do you truly expect anger management class to help? There isn't really any migitating circumstances here.

Personally, I would have yelled very scarily at both of them, told the boyfriend to beat it immediately, and then taken disciplinary measures (grounded, no internet, no phone, all the draconian parental stuff) against the daughter once my wife got home.

Deserves humiliation. But this is personal opinion.

Still. If you cannot contain your rage as a parent under a trivial offence, you ain't a good parent to begin with. Rage on if said matter was dire, though.

Personally, I'd go out for the boyfriend and leave the daughter mildly to unpunished, so long as she understands the protocol of the house. If the guy can't keep it in his pants, then the lady is not to be punished for the misdeeds. Unless consensual, then by all means go after both. But this does not mean physical violence is to be used. It means to prepare beforehand to such an event.

If there's nothing illegal like the girl being under age then its not the father's business who she's in a relationship with because it isn't the Middle Ages and girls are not their father's property.

If there was something illegal going on he could call the police and let the legal system handle it like a responsible citizen of a civilized country.

In a situation like this, emotions can run high, and he likely began acting before he thought it through. The charges should be dropped or heavily reduced, and the "child cruelty" charge should be dropped particularly; the name of the charge is misleading, and they're just trying to pile onto him for a reaction that many parents would have.

If I did something like this, I'd be just as afraid of my own father than my [hypothetical] girlfriend's.
