Considering how the uppermost steps of the ladder are occupied already by people who don't take lightly people climbing up and actually do their best to keep other people down, and how that ladder is propped upright by people who stay at the bottom... need for lousy jobs. Unless the uppermost steps decide out of charitable feelings that some can be allowed to step up a bit - to replace someone else.

"Free market" currently is just a libertarian buzzword for "privilege of the rich". In such contingency, there's no need for immigrants to learn the local language.

As for "everyone has to climb the ladder if he's able to do so", that's actually socialism, not "free market". Everyone suggesting that the playing field should be levelled (as in sharing a common language) is pushing for socialism. Not that this wouldn't be a good thing imho, but I don't see it happening in the UGFASCSA (United God-Fearing Anti-Socialist Consumerist States of America).

Sure. But like I said, I'm not going to turn down a desirable job just because I can't speak the native language. I'm not really obligated to learn anymore of the local language than what I need to get by either. Most people learn the language over time, the few that don't aren't worth worrying about.

which is why its not a problem in the US. people come here and learn English. it takes some people longer than others. some never get particularly good at it. but everyone tries because you cant get by here without being able to speak to people.

I don't speak French. I went to Paris. I was pretty well liked.

Of course, in broader terms, it depends on the job. You might be able to work at a Mexican restaurant as a Mexican migrant with little to no English. But you could not hold an office job in a non Mexican area, could you?

Part of respecting the culture is learning the language. Not learning a tiny bit of French and coming here and only speaking English would be disrespectful, I am sure the Americans and the English feel the same about me.
