Another simple question. Should Immigrants to the USA learn English? Should they be forced to take English classes? And who would pay for them?

I think that, yes, immigrants to the US should learn to speak English. That doesn't mean they can't speak their native language. Rather, it means they can better participate in the USA's economy. If you know a county's language, you have a leg up on those who don't. I would also make the classes optional, and paid for by the government.

You really want to tell someone who emigrated to the US with no English and now speaks it well, that "you have no idea what you're talking about" ?

1. Learn how to debate

If you can't answer this:

They're not good citizens if they don't speak the language the rest of the entire country speaks. If they speak Dutch, or Russian or Spanish or Mandarin do you really expect everyone else to learn it as well, just to accommodate an immigrant in the USA (an English speaking country)? No-- If they refuse to learn English then why do they want to live in the USA? Why do I (a citizen of the USA) have to live with them, too? When they can't bother to have an ounce of patriotism for their new country? They don't HAVE to be in the USA, and I take it, by the fact that they can't even bother to learn the basics of being American, that they're only in the USA to abuse the rights and privileges given to them by the US Constitution.

Speaking a certain language and being a good citizen are not mutually inclusive. You speak English and you are a bad citizen for trying to force your views on others.

I don't get it, if a man from Germany wants to move to the USA, but refuses to learn a single word of English, how will he survive in 99% of the United States? He only speaks 1 language-- German. That's not a common language spoken by large amounts of people in the majority of areas of the USA. If a Hispanic man from El Salvador and only speaks Spanish there are large portions of the United States (a majority of the 50 states, in fact) that don't commonly have large populations of Hispanics. How could he survive, refusing to learn English? How is he supposed to be successful in life, leaving his country and coming to mine and living in a non-Spanish speaking area?

If they are here, they are not breaking laws, and are surviving, then clearly they are able to communicate with others. If that is not in English, then it's in another language. It does not matter what language.

These are the reasons immigrants must learn to speak English. If they don't, then how are they supposed to achieve their own American Dream? Their own success would be ruined by their unwillingness to accept new things. If they don't want to speak the language my country speaks, then they shouldn't immigrate to the United States.

Really, there's a reason why there's a lot of illegal immigrants here. I mean, yeah, you can say that we should look it case by case, but that's what I'm saying: they don't. And I'm not saying illegals should be given preferential treatment either. All I'm saying is we should treat illegals the same as legals.

As I've said, there are people who did waited as legal immigrants who turn into illegals because their visa expired. Illegal immigration is a complex issue that only immigrants or those who works in immigration know. And as one of these legal immigrants, believe me when I said it's not preferential treatment because I don't feel like I've been treated unfairly compared to illegals. Considering we're all treated like shit by the DHS.

No one except for a very few chooses to be illegal immigrants. Rather, illegal immigration is the result of not processing immigrants both legal and illegals. That's why if you process them all in an efficient manner without discerning whether they are illegal or legal, you'll be better off instead of whatever you have in store for them. Considering, though, as English is the most-spoken language, though, I think that those immigrants who ask for US citizenship should be required to have at least a basic command (let's say equivalent of the European level A2) of English.
