Autism and retardation has a clear difference. They are different mental conditions, autism has an effect on very specific pars of the brain, I have high functioning autism and I do find myself odd, but still, is he autistic or retarded?

Don't bother. I use the term "Mentally retarded" to refer to people suffering from "Mental retardation" I define it by a person being very behind in mental age E.G a 40 year old who acts and is stuck permanently through no fault of his own acting like a 6 year old.

I don't think that "But why should the rest of us have to suffer." is just asking for a child to be quiet. It sounds more like victimising one's self, and making a scene, which is disruptive.

There's a difference between what he said, mental retardation, and calling someone retarded. One is a medical term while the other is an insult.
