Schools have more responsibilities than just educating their students. The United American Social Republic wrote:
1. Yeah, actually field trips were pretty rare when I was in school. Point noted, though there are many cheaper and easier ways to give somebody an identification if they get lost on a field trip, such as an ID card.
How is an ID card an easier way of identifying students as students than uniforms?2. So the school should be more responsible for the children's safety than their own parents?
Where did you get that idea?3. Why? Because there's no statistical evidence to back up the claim. Why would I agree with a notion without evidence? Sense of community comes in a lot of ways, and I think that what you wear is pretty low on the list of determining factors.
Do you have statistical evidence to support that ranking of determining factors?4. Didn't you say something to the degree of "it's harder to break dress code if you had a uniform"? I don't remember exactly what you said, but based on my response it seems like that's about what I was responding to,
My posts are still there, you can go back and read them again.5. Okay? Is taking away freedom of expression to stop a little bit of social pressure worth it? Especially when the social pressure will take many other forms regardless?
Not in and of itself, but there are other benefits, as noted. Besides which, children already have only limited access to their rights, slightly less freedom of expression is hardly going to make any great difference.

Some parents (mine, future me) don't quite like such repressive and arbitrary standards of "discipline", whatever it means.

It could help reduce bullying and gang violence. I'm not an expert and am not familiar with the statistics, but I present this as a possibility.

Really? You can only recognise people by what they wear? D---, that must be f------ difficult whenever people change their clothes.

There is actually a disorder for that. Specifically, the inability to recognise faces. Prosopagnosia. So uniforms could pose a serious issue if put into place in areas with people who have this disorder.
