Your typing speed.

Postby Urin Injimin Sasang » Tue Dec 15, 2009 7:01 am

On average, varying between 70 - 90 wpm depending on mood, sobriety and the amount of time I've been on or away from a computer.

You can change your vote if you find more recent evidence suggesting your typing speed.

Post-script: I don't 'peck type'/2-finger. I use a combination of fingers akin to the 'convoluted touch-typing' (paraphrasing here, not quoting) that other guy was talking about.

Do you happen to know a link to a test where it is possible to see? It would be interesting to know, but I'm not interested enough to count manually.

As a two-finger typist, fast enough (70-80 WPM) that virtually nobody on NSG would believe me. :(

Roughly 90 to a 100 a minute. To be fair though it depends on if I alreayd know what i'm typing, or more accuratly for myself, If I can make it up in a fluent manner as I go along.

Well over 120, using my own corrupted breed of touch-typing. I've hit 140 at times, although that's generally when I need to type stuff really fast (obvious statement hur dur, but it needed saying).

Just barely 50wpm. I type mainly with two fingers although I'll mix in up to 5, usually only when its quite convenient to do so.

The test I took:
http://www.typeonline.co.uk/typingspeed.php

EDIT: I hadn't read through the passage, so its possible I could type faster, no mistakes either.

I manage about 45 wpm but the error level is low.

I use four fingers; I tried to take typing in high school but they switched me to shorthand because they needed more students so that class would not have to be closed. I was literally drafted.

To recapitulate that statement (part of it anyway), it seems most of you are in the 70-89 partile. This doesn't make me feel so insecure. I was expecting everybody on NSG to be typing hypomanics at speeds of 150 WPM+

80-85 wpm normally, topping out at around 105 wpm if I need to press it.

Interestingly, I can type perfectly with my left hand and usually peck with my right hand. Then again, I'm left handed.

That measures the ability to read, translate and type at the same time, for which I score about 55, as compared to typing from mind where you're familiar with the material, or even typing on NSG since it's just streams of consciousness..

101 wpm according to the test.

Mind you, I made a lot of mistakes I had to go back and correct in the middle, since the test made me nervous :/ When not being tested it's probably a bit more, but meh.

As far as I can tell I use all five fingers on both hands, some (pinkies especially) less often than others though.

According to Lackadaisical2's test, 76 words per minute with no mistakes. The text was rather heavy on comma's, however, which does slow me down somewhat.

I type using two fingers mostly, but occasionally a third finger will be used somewhere. I'm much slower when typing what I'm thinking, as I tend to decide to restructure the last half of the sentence.

Quite. I was bothered by some of the words, since its British english (although, I don't think thats what you meant by translate :P), and there were just, strange things happening. I don't type too fast anyway.

I haven't bothered to measure my typing speed but I can accurately type just slightly slower than I speak, so that should be a good measurement.

I remember getting kicked out of a chatroom because I was typing along to a song I was listening to. That was fun.

I haven't checked my fingers against the clock, but I can type pretty darn fast if I'm in a hurry and already know what I'm going to type. You could say that my fingers are sometimes faster than my brain, especially if I have to think about what I'm writing, like with this answer. I make typos when writing at any speed, but also tend to correct them more or less automatically.

Heh, an interesting enough fact that in Runescape I was once accused of being a computer program, because I could type my answers so quickly, using normal language instead of chatspeak. :lol2:
