If Aliens Exist, Do They Worship God?

Postby El Bananistan » Mon Mar 10, 2014 1:13 pm

Do you believe in God or in the concept of an almighty supreme being or force that created and watches over everything in the universe?

And if it turns out that Earth isn't the only planet in the known cosmos on which intelligent life evolved, what are the possibilities that alien civilizations also worship a god figure? It's one of those very big and complex questions that humans wonder about.

"It's really hard to imagine that any civilized society would have an answer for that," says actor Morgan Freeman. "It's impossible for me to imagine that we are all there is in a universe this large. And by universe, I mean just this galaxy. I can't imagine that we're all there is. I think there are probably many, many, many intelligent lifeforms," Freeman told The Huffington Post.

Of the many questions humans have ever asked, the concept of whether or not God is worshipped on other worlds could someday be paramount to our understanding of our actual place in the universe.

Freeman explores these provocative topics on "Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman," part of Science Channel's week-long series, "Are We Alone?"

If an ET were to make contact, Morgan knows exactly what he would say: "I would first ask, 'How the hell did you get here?' and the second question, 'Is there a God in your society?'"

Aliens. Do they exist? Do they not? And if they do, do they worship God — despite the fact that concept of "God" is subjective? I present you an interesting philosophical discussion. I don't have an opinion on the subject, but if aliens are really as advanced as we think they are, then I would say the concept of God is not present in their culture[s]. Muchas gracias y ariba.
Why do you think anyone gives a shit abot your descendancy, political opinions or religion? Really, you're not nearly as important as you think you are. Nobody cares. That's right. Nobody cares if your grandfather was from Rhodesia, Russia or Norway. You are not important. 'Deal with it'? The only thing I will have to deal with is you, being an overly euphoric, self-important and obnoxious as fuck teenager.

Here's a more interesting question: Does each alien race get it's own Jesus?

Based upon what happened in halo with the religious aliens.....we'd better hope not.

Waxing philosophical, eh?

Honestly now: trying ti guess if aliens worship God would presuppose a universe created by one supreme being and other life forms being aware of Creationism in the same way several humans are (or follow said idea, let me correct my statement). If that were the case, would we be aware of the existence of other thinking being other than us?

Obviously, they would, although the chances that their religions are fuctioning in the same way as human religions or follow similar concepts is rather unlikely, although it would be badass.

As a strictly devout Orthodox Christian, believer in Intelligent Design, and other intelligent life in the universe, I believe that Christ must have manifested himself in different forms to other planets with sentient life in order to spread the truth and moral code of christianity, Yes. Whether or not they call it "christianity" or "jesus christ" is probably a no, as these terms were from earth languages.

I'm sure that they believe (or have, or will) some god, be it the classic omnipotent-omniscient one, or a personification of nature as they perceive it.

Assuming god exists, assuming he wants to be worshipped, assuming the aliens are sentient and obedient, assuming aliens understand the concept of worship, then maybe.

I would think so. However, in the situation were in with multiple religions and even atheism, I think that these races, being as advanced technologically are able to compare the things their god did in their ancient culture to their current technology therefor proving that they can't have a God. However, in a matter of faith or purpose that they need to strive to fulfill, a God maybe necessary.

Goodmorning, we'd like to talk to you about the Good Message of our Lord, Xoorpouyts Up, who died for our sins.

Interesting question though, if you believe this, wich is your inherent right, does this mean Christ gets crucified infinite number of times?

Exactly my thoughts (referring to the Xoorpouyts Up skit :P).

I don't believe he was specifically crucified on other planets, but I do think he have been martyred in some other way on other planets for the absolution of sin. Mabye his bones were deep fried and juiced into ecto-cooler or something, or he was fed to angry tyrannids, the method isn't important. The ressurection, trampling down of hell, and absolution of sin, is.

Regarding each Alien race getting their own Jesus, it's worth noting that, according to the Bible, we need Jesus because we're sinners, and sin originated when Adam and Eve ate the apple in the Garden of Eden. Therefore, said alien race(s) would only need a Messiah figure if they had their own Garden of Gliese and they ate from the forbidden scalefish-tree or something.

People think that aliens could be us visiting from the future, or that aliens act like gods. So are we gods that worship ourselves?

Sure. Assuming human cultural and social development is typical and not an aberration, it is almost guaranteed that aliens would have developed their own religious beliefs and practices. However, one can't draw a line with but one data point, so we can't know whether or not we are typical. That said, I think it's a safe assumption. I see no reason why we should be special.
