It's nonsense to ascribe the welfare state as "socialist".
One of these days, I'm going to burst a blood vessel in my brain.

Fix the healthcare system. Beyond that, no. America doesn't need more 'socialism'. I definitely don't wanna see the US go full europe.

Of course it is, but that's how OP is using the term, so you might just play along.

What do you mean by "fix the healthcare system"? That could mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
Other than that I agree.

Presumably since we're talking about "socialism", he means a national healthcare system.

If you know the idiom well enough to be pedantic about it, you know it well enough to know what was meant. Sheldon Cooper is only funny on TV, in real life nobody likes a 'sperger.

If a saying makes no sense, it doesn't deserve to be said.

Well there are lots of things you could do to "fix" the healthcare system that do not involve entrusting something as important as healthcare to the incompetent bureaucratic machine (also known as government). Allowing people to purchase health insurance from across state lines, for instance.

You do not seem to be paying close attention to American politics.

You seem to be making a little bit of a stereotype there...

Sounds like what the GOP proposes by deregulating everything until there's nothing left to regulate.

If I lived in a country without public healthcare, I'd be just ashamed, ashamed.

It's like saying it's okay for people who don't have money to die.

Don't you feel bad for lagging behind Brazil, China and Saudi Arabia?
Pro: Communism/anarchism, Indigenous rights, MOGAI stuff, bodily autonomy, disability rights, environmentalism
Meh: Animal rights, non-harmful religion/superstition, militant atheism, left-leaning reform of capitalism
Anti: Dyadic superstructure (sex-gender birth designation and hierarchy), positivism, conservatism, imperialism, Zionism, Orientalism, fascism, religious right, bending to reactionary concerns before freedom/common concern, fraudulent beliefs and ideologies

Formerly "Hetalian Indie Rio de Janeiro".

Compass: -10.00, -9.13
S-E Ideology: Demc. Socialist (92% ditto/Marxist, 75% Anarchist/Social democrat, 0% etc)
S-E school of thought: Communist (100% ditto, 96% Post-Keynesian)

Though this says I'm a social democrat, I'm largely a left communist.

That is what happens when you teach Atlas Shrugged instead of Das Kapital in the 8th grade, America.

Indeed. Government is by nature corrupt and inefficient. Entrusting more responsibility than is necessary to the government is not a good idea.
Also, poor people in America (like me, a broke college student) are not left to die if they can't pay for treatment.

I doubt the average American's acess to healthcare is this bad.

Sebtopiaris wrote:Looks to me like a map of the civilised world.

I would hardly call Saudi Arabia, China, Brazil, Argentina and Oman "civilized" countries.
Your nation is like a son. What it does right is your merit, as well as what it does wrong is your fault. When you praise it, be lucid and avoid exaggeration. Praising it too much can make it indolent. On the other hand, when you criticize it, be harsh, but do not ridicule it. Do your best to improve it, not through derision or disdain, but through good examples and dedication.

Well, I am not a broke college student; I am actually a graduate.

I think government can implement universal healthcare, although the government being corrupt? You have to be more specific than that.
