But certainly not this propaganda piece.

I found Schindler's List very offensive.

Taken highlighted the fact that those Eastern Europeans are still engaging in barbarous acts of sex-slave trafficking, they are left unchecked.

Just because sex trafficking occurs today, doesn't diminish the fact that it's true.

Funny that. Sex trafficking occurs all over the world. Even in Germany and Austria.

No. No Austrian would ever betray a fellow countryman.

No - I told him to stop posting in German in threads about fascism.

It makes it much harder to moderate if people are posting in German rather than the forum's default language, so I'll gently note that polite request to stick to English in these threads applies to everyone.

Edit:

I am leaving this thread open for now for two reasons:

A) As offensive as Tapferkeit und Ehre's ideology is to most members of NSG, he - so far, in this thread at least - hasn't broken any rules while arguing in favour of that ideology (more specifically in favour of a film supporting that ideology). I would particularly remind everyone that he acknowledges the reality of the Holocaust (even while arguing that it was the responsibility of non-Germans working for the Nazis).

B) One of the best ways of countering an offensive ideology is to expose it to ridicule via the very same free exchange of ideas that would be denied under a fascist regime.

But please don't break the rules if you take route B.

Remember that Tapferkeit und Ehre is a serial rule breaker who's already reached his fourth or fifth nation (despite his attempts to be polite in this thread, the consequences of arguing in favour of Nazism, even when not denying the Holocaust, are such that warnings and bans for trolling are essentially inevitable) and that level of serial rule breaking almost inevitably brings consequences from the New Order of Moderation, as the defective rule-breaking posters are cleansed for the glory of the Moderation Reich. Expect to see victorious action on this battle front in the near future.

Heil Moderation!

Obergruppenführer Archregimancy

Edit 2:

Following further discussion, a final solution to the Fascist German Union problem has now been implemented.

However I'll leave this thread unlocked since a discussion of the supposed virtues (or otherwise) of Triumph of the Will is entirely valid.

I would be grateful, however, if you restricted discussion to the actual film, and didn't focus on the character or origin of an OP who is no longer around to trouble us.

I got Triumph of the Will on DVD when I lived in China. Didn't care for it. It might be because this was during the 15 years of my life when I wasn't into Nazis.

As a kid, I didn't really understand how bad the 3rd Reich was, and I kind of thought they were cool. Then I got a proper explanation of what a concentration camp was and decided they were not so cool after all. I wasn't interested in them for a long time after that.

But then when I was 26 I got interested again and started reading up about the history. That was the same year I joined NS.

I watched Triumph of the Will when I was in my early 20s and I got so bored that I literally fell asleep on my couch while I was watching it. Never bothered to try watching it again once I got interested in Nazis...

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

It is pretty stupid. Olympia (I think it was called that) was better.

However, both movies are propaganda for one of the worst regimes on earth.

Despite its evil purpose, I would agree that it is an incredible work of cinematography. Leni Riefenstahl clearly understood how to manipulate her audience.

What about The Producers? Or that one where Christopher Lee acted out Pakistan's founder? Blazing Saddles?

You could have picked classier Nazi Propaganda. Their take on The Titanic had me reeling in my chair.

Huh?

I never went back to rooting for the Nazis. I just got interested in the history. It's Albert Speer's fault that I got completely obsessed and stayed interested in it for so long, but the reason I read his memoirs in the first place was just historical curiosity similar to why I read about the Civil War or the Tokugawa shoguns.
